Meet Mamuni
Mamuni was once afraid to even step out in public. Through Nomi Network India’s program, she built the confidence and skills she needed, and she did not just step out. She began working at a local shop, and has since been promoted twice.

Mamuni’s journey shows what becomes possible when a woman is given the chance to grow. But for many women and girls in rural India, that chance never comes. 34% of adolescent girls in rural India do not attend secondary school. 68% of women aged 15–49 are not employed, and 15% of women who do work are not paid at all.
About Nomi Network India, through Know Me India Trust (KMIT), works to change this. Since 2009, we have worked with more than 15,000 women and adolescent girls across Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha, helping them build the skills, confidence and networks to break cycles of exploitation and poverty.
How we work: Train, Connect, Lead
- Train: Life skills and technical training that build confidence, agency and practical skills for employment or entrepreneurship.
- Connect: Linking women to safe jobs, or supporting them to start their own small businesses.
- Lead: Helping women and girls become leaders at home, at work and in their communities.
