Day 65 : 05Jul21
Hasan continues to be in the Tracheostomy Ward at the Hospital. Recovery continues to be slow, and he has now developed Ulcers in his colon…has an endoscopy today along with a Biopsy today. His haemoglobin is at a count of 8 and he was given a Unit of blood yesterday to bring it back to normal level. 65 days on bed immobile have created a severe case of bedsores and one of the sores is responsible for the rectal bleeding.
Through all this pain he continues to manfully fight each day, his progress from Day 1 continues to defy logic.
Below is a timeline of events:
30Apr21 – Admitted to Geetha Nursing Home with COVID symptoms
03May21 – Discharged as told his symptoms have subsided
05May21 ( Night ) – re-admitted to Geetha ( symtoms start to get severe )
06May21 – Shifted to Apollo Jubilee Hills ( General Ward )
07May21 – Shifted to COVID ICU at Apollo
Tocilizumab was given to him during the course of the week along with Steroids ( all immune suppressants ), however his Cytokine Storm was extremely strong and needed more extreme measures to counter .
!6May21 – Hasan moves onto a Ventilator
His breathing continues to be difficult …during the course of the next week He will go through two days of Cytosorb Filters ( a dialysis for the lungs ) to counter the Cytokine Storm. We finally see some positive changes during the course of the week. All this while nobody from his Family is able to visit him.
31May21 – Hasan is moved to a Non COVID ICU
He can now get a few visitors . He has become extremely weak and is unable to speak due many tubes in his Trachea and nose. He continues to be on full ventilator support. The Lungs have a lot of fibrosis in them and breathing even with a ventilator is proving difficult.
Around the same time the Hospital has started an aggressive physiotherapy to free up the lungs of the scar tissue and fibrosis.
15Jun21
BiPAP trials have been started and Hasan is holding up well…he now has an issue with the bedsores.
As expected such extended Hospital stays are expensive and Hasan’s case is no different. So far in 2 different fund raising drives INR 24 Lacs been collected and an Insurance claim has netted INR 5.4 Lacs. The total hospital bill at the moment is over double that approx. INR 50 Lacs ( Apollo has promised help in every manner ). We are still running a deficit of over INR 20 Lacs …and Hasan is probably going to be in Hospital for another 15 days at least from here. So deficit from here is at least 25 Lacs .
Your generosity matters…
