Kavya Is an 18 year old 2nd year B Com stdent at SSMRV college, Bangalore. She is also a State level Bronze medallist sprinter, her events being the 100m and 200m sprint.
Kavya wakes up 4:30 every day to get to training on time. She lives 15 km away from her training spot, which makes her come to train everyday against the odds. She comes from an economically disadvantaged background- her mother works as a labourer while her father is at home. Her mother, says Kavya, is supportive. “She wants me to succeed in sports and win awards”
“Kavya is extremely tough mentally” says Coach Bindu. “She is a fighter, training against all odds. Once she sets her mind to it, there is no swaying her from the goal”
However, Kavya now needs your support. Sports are expensive to pursue. Her nutritional requirements cost 4000 rupees a month, and spike shoes (a must for a sprinter) have to be replaced once in 3 months. Currently Kavya is looking towards heading for Nationals next year. However, her long term goals are to aim for the Asian Commonwealth Games in 2019. She is confident that she can get there- with a bit of help.
