Prologue: -
I feel proud. I feel gleeful, and yet, I am discontented while penning down this piece. Parents being parents, they say, I have made them proud.

The reason being; I have been offered a place to pursue my postgraduation course [LL.M.] with the esteemed University of Cambridge.  It has been a boisterous ride, to say the least, because we tend to push ourselves across the limits, to bridge the gap between a dream becoming a reality, isn't it?.

The Context: -

The agony is, that all the scholarship applications lodged by me have failed/met with no response. I have written to the Member of Parliament, MLAs, and multifarious other authorities but they have met with the same fate. The loan applications have also not worked out having regard to the humongous amount sought, albeit without security, as my home property stands already mortgaged.

The consternation due to the pandemic is such that the finances of the family have taken a serious hit. It is only because of my meager savings from the current job profile as a Law Clerk that I was able to afford the entire application process as also IELTS and other incidental charges.

About me: -
I hail from Jaipur, Rajasthan. I come from a humble background. I did my undergraduate studies at The Tamil Nadu National Law University, Trichy [TNNLU] in the academic sessions spanning between 2014-2019. I was facilitated with a Gold Medal upon successful completion of my degree course, i.e., B. COM. LL.B. (Hons.)

I represented my alma mater in various national-level competitions. I have also been facilitated with the Bar Council of India [BCI] scholarship cum Best Advocate award at the BCI All India Moot Court Competition, 2019. I also assisted my alma mater in setting up an Office of Career Services. I served as a convenor for the Office for the academic session 2018-2019. I have also served as Vice-President of the Network for International Law Students (NILS). Under my pilotage, NILS conducted various international and national events with the motto of bringing law students across jurisdictions together and increasing access to the law.

Since law school, I have been a permanent member of the Peoples Union for Civil Liberties [PUCL]. I have worked on cases concerning religious majoritarianism and transparency of the State mechanism.

After graduation, I was privileged to secure a clerkship under a senior Judge of a constitutional court. I was appointed as a Law Researcher by the Chief Justice, High Court of Delhi on a monthly fixed pay of Rs. 35,000/-. Since then, I have been serving the Delhi High Court.

Study at Cambridge: -
I have always believed that law is a powerful tool to attain social transformation. I aim to initiate a change in the community with actions focused on humanitarian good. I place my deepest faith and interest in specializing in the interplay of social justice and Intellectual Property Rights [IPR]. The focal point of my stint at Cambridge will be to strive for this intersectionality.
IPR, as a field, when gazed through the utilitarian approach can do wonders for a developing economy like India. A balanced regime that promotes innovation furthering the public interest fosters support to homegrown entities and generates bountiful opportunities. The change in a regime requires meditated efforts of all but needs one true spark to initiate.

The amount required: -
The total minimum obligation includes the following, as per the official document, received from Cambridge.

"Therefore your minimum annual estimated financial liability is:
£ 350.00 Non-UK Settling in Supp
£ 11,123.00 Student Maintenance
£ 32,214.00 UCF Overseas/Islands"

Total: £ 43,467 | In INDIAN RUPEES Rs. 46,94,436/-

When the aforementioned amount is added to the VISA application cost as also traveling cost; the figure goes beyond a sum of Rs. 50 lakhs. My savings from my 2-year experience as a law clerk coupled with the Fixed Deposits in the name of my parents, when liquidated, can support me to an extent of Rs. 8 lakhs. Hence, I have requested, via this fundraiser, an amount of Rs. 40,00,000/-.

Conclusion: -

I would, therefore, urge you all that if you believe in my candidature, and trust that my education/learnings from Cambridge can bring about a change in society, please do help me.
