Our journey goes back to 1952, when his father and Guru, Veerasree Sami Gurukkal, founded the Hindustan Kalari Sangam in Calicut, under the guidance of Guru Govindankutty Nambiar. For over a decade, Kalarigram has been a living space for Kalaripayattu, Ayurveda, Yoga, meditation, Kalari Marma Chikitsa, and traditional Indian arts, welcoming students and seekers from across the world. Today, we are returning to the roots of our lineage to build a Gurukulam near Calicut, a place where this knowledge can continue to be lived, taught, and passed from Guru to Shishya, generation after generation. Help us carry this legacy forward.
The Problem
Modern Ayurveda has largely become a science of textbooks rather than a science of the body. Today's practitioners may know the theory, but they have lost the tactile, flesh-and-bone understanding of the human machine.
This fracture of our traditional knowledge system was set in motion by the British ban of 1804. By dismantling the Kalari Gurukulams that rooted these disciplines together, the era violently split the Vaidya from the Kalari master.
Without that unified training ground, Ayurveduc wisdom is no longer embodied in the muscles, movement, and breath. We have created theoretical experts disconnected from the physical reality of how a body breaks and mends. Healing is no longer an intimate, physical grasp of human mechanics, it is merely prescribed. We are building this Gurukulam to repair that historical severing and bring a new age of healers who are rooted in the body.
The Lineage That Refused to Forget
In the aftermath of this fracture, Kalaripayattu was driven underground and barely survived. But in Calicut, 1952, when an independent India was just five years old, one young man began gathering the pieces.
Guru Veera Sri Sami Gurukkal started Hindustan Kalari Sangam to bring the martial art back into the open. To restore the broken whole, he had to seek out three separate masters: Kalaripayattu from Govindan Kutty Nambiar, Ayurveda from C.V. Damodaran Vaidyar, and Tantra from Anangananda Natha.
He wove these streams back into a single, unified science, teaching them to his disciples to ensure the embodied knowledge would outlive him. He dreamt of a Bharat that facilitated the creation of warrior-healers like him.
Building the Gurukulam
Today, his disciples are taking the final step to bring his vision alive. We are building the Guru Veera Sri Sami Gurukkal Ayurveda Kalari Gurukulam, structured on a rigorous CSU framework to finally institutionalize this living knowledge.
For seventy-four years, this lineage has survived entirely on the sheer will of what its teachers could personally carry. It is time to give it a permanent foundation so it never risks disappearing again.
How the funds will be used
Your contribution directly builds the physical and institutional foundation of the Gurukulam. The funds raised will be dedicated to:
- Constructing the Infrastructure: Building the necessary facilities to operate the Gurukulam in full compliance with the CSU framework.
