My journey with Kaju began when I got a rescue call about her in the last week of May. I found her lying completely flat after a horrific accident that left her with two shattered legs. She was in critical condition with no time to wait, so as an individual rescuer, I stepped in immediately. As the fracture was intense, we were waiting for the doctor to give us a date for the surgery. In the meantime, she developed severe bacterial infection around both legs. I took her to N3 ortho Veterinary Hospital where she underwent two major surgeries—one for each leg—costing ₹20,000 each for the operations alone totalling ₹40,000 excluding meds, food, and boarding. Just as she began to heal, the immense stress caused her to contract Canine Distemper. Even while isolated in medical boarding, she developed extreme pneumonia, struggled to breathe, and stopped eating for days. With dangerously low platelets, we truly thought we would lose her. We gave her every medication that we could. High dosage anitbiotics like Doxy, Canglop D injections, vitamin and platelet supplements, protein rich food, everything. With intensive treatment, proper care, and above all, love, Kaju showed unbelievable resilience and beat all odds. Her blood test from 20 days ago showed her platelets are finally back above normal range! And shes is enjoying her favorite meals again.
However, her battle wasn't over. Her titanium plate from her front leg began breaking through her skin recently, requiring an emergency removal surgery. This tuesday - 18/08 , that final procedure is complete, and Kaju is officially a happy, thriving soul. She is wagging her tail, enjoying her favorite meal of chicken rice, and sleeping peacefully wrapped in her starry blankie. She did the hardest, bravest work by choosing life through every single nightmare, but as an individual rescuer managing this entirely on my own, the financial toll of 3 months of medical boarding, double surgeries, distemper care, and emergency plate removal has become impossible to bear alone.
The bill for the latest surgery is due, and the medical boarding for the past 2 months is due. Bills for medication is due.
To give Kaju a chance at life, I have spent around 50,000 out of my own pocket. Now, I desperately need our community's help to clear her remaining hospital and boarding dues. No amount is too big or small—every single rupee and share helps give Kaju the debt-free, fresh start she fought so hard to reach. Please consider donating and sharing her story!
