Hailing from a small township in Pondicherry and having been in the wedding bags manufacturing and earning a meager income. My income varied where I was still struggling to make ends meet with my 2 children. Post-COVID, the situation worsened and the manufacturing business had come to a grinding halt. We were rapidly depleting our savings, consumed with anxiety and frustration. We were finding a more inexpensive way to live.
My 4-year-old son's agony
Adding to our misery, I soon realized that something was seriously wrong with my son, 4 years old, who started developing rashes on his skin throughout the body which kept increasing every day and when topical ointments and lotions were not working, we decided to take my son to a government hospital in Pondicherry (JIPMER). After undergoing several tests, it soon became apparent that my son had developed ALL (acute lymphoblastic leukemia); blood cancer in simple terms. Soon, his symptoms of fever, frequent infections and bruising worsened with excruciating pain. After all the lab and radiological tests, the doctors at JIPMER decided to start chemotherapy consisting of 5 cycles.
Treatment and Diagnosis
My 4-year-old son was diagnosed with ALL with intracranial bleed. Bone marrow test was deferred. Lab investigations showed hyperleukocytosis with thrombocytopenia and hence my son was shifted to the PICU for further management. Chemotherapy was begun in the second week of September 2020. As of now, 2 cycles of chemotherapy is completed and currently my son is undergoing the third cycle.
Treatment costs pre and post-hospitalization
I have spent all my earnings for my son's treatment, towards hospitalization and medications. Regular follow ups are also expensive. The third cycle of chemotherapy had just begun and would take two months to complete and the next cycle (cycle 4) would commence after 2 weeks of the previous cycle. It is estimated that it should take more than 4 months to complete all the cycles. As for the tentative treatment expenses, for the third cycle a sum of Rs. 2 lakhs is required, for the fourth cycle a sum of 2.5 lakhs is required and for the fifth cycle a sum of Rs. 50,000 is required totaling upto 5 lakhs for completion of all the remaining cycles.
Help and Support required
With all my efforts and with the support of my kith and kin and friends, I was able to raise a certain amount towards my son’s initial expenditures. Now, with all resources exhausted, I have no other option than to approach Milaap as a last resort. At this juncture, after spending all the generated funds and all my savings for my son on his treatment, I am still in need of financial support and patronage. I seek the help of all well wishers to come forward to support us financially. The doctors have given us hope and positivity of our son getting well as he is positively responding to all treatments.
