I am Himani Rani, a student, NCC Cadet. Daughter of Ram Pravesh, a daily wage earner. We belong to a very humble family background.
I read somewhere, “Lightning never strikes the same place twice”. Our story is the opposite. Our father was barely able to manage our daily bread and studies. But probably God had different plans. In November 2019, my mother, now late Jiyan Devi was diagnosed of Glioblastoma grade IV brain cancer. She was our whole and soul. She was spine of our family, we leant upon.
We knocked doors of several hospitals. Vivekanand Hospital, Haldwani, Nainitaal took her in. We spent every available penny on her in hope more than belief. My father was able to get a loan for my mother’s treatment. God be kind to my uncle who helped us get that loan. We did everything we could have, to save her till her last breath.
We lost her on unfortunate morning of 25-June-2020. For weeks, our entire family was submerged in pain and tears. That day we realized the real feeling of losing someone own. Slowly we realized she has gone never to return. And then a realization of mountainesque debt crawled in front of us.
We are permanent residents of Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand. Now my father is out of work due to Covid-19. With no source of alternate income. But we will survive.
