Amphan - a super-cyclone that made a landfall in the Southern part of the state of West Bengal, India, has wreaked unprecedented havoc on nearly 13 million people. In a matter of few hours, forests, crops, lands and over 1.5 million houses were completely destroyed, impacting 21,560 sq km of land area and breaching river embankments completely. The cyclone whipped right through the Sundarbans, the world's largest mangrove forest, and the districts of North and South 24 Paraganas. These areas are now left without drinking water, food, livelihood and habitation. The calamity has struck at a time when India reported its 100 thousandth case of COVID19 infection.

The families, she and her friend - Afsar Ali, have tried to help grew from 10 to 100 in a matter of weeks. And then on 20 May, the supercyclone Amphan hit home hard, and Nishat had to double up capacity through her friends and family to support as many people as she could.
