India Foundation for Education Transformation | On a mission to build a strong academic foundation in 30,000 early graders by 2025 and to enable 5000 secondary graders to get into colleges.
"I couldn't clear my class X board exam in 2018. I had no other option but to leave my hometown to work in a factory in Tirrupur. I don't like being in this position now but the education system failed me", recalls Sonjit, a class X drop out from Moitripur village, Changlang, Arunachal Pradesh.
Meet Toidang, who once aspired to become a journalist, now is in a drug rehabilitation centre in Bordumsa town in Changlang District of Arunachal Pradesh. Toidong could have been a journalist, but his failure at 12 Board exam level made him first consume alcohol and then drugs.
Both Sonjit and Toidong are two among the thousands of children in Arunachal Pradesh who couldn't clear their board exams every year. As a result of which, both remained unskilled to avail of whatever decent opportunities or jobs and sadly for Toidong, he found solace in drugs. This is the story of thousands of children who are dropping out of the schooling system every year in Changlang district.
One of the main reasons for the high failure rate in Board exams is because of the existing severe learning crisis at the foundational level. Almost all our students initially study in Anganwadis and primary schools where they learnt almost nothing.
WHY ARE WE SEEKING HELP?
By 2030, an estimated 3 lakhs children in Arunachal Pradesh and estimated 22 lakhs in the entire NE India, are expected to continue their education without foundational skills(literacy and numeracy)-the most critical gateway skills to succeed in life. Due to which they are expected to fail in their Board exams and drop out of their education system if we don’t step up now. So your help is urgent and important to stop this vicious cycle of education poverty.
This year, through our Foundational Learning Program, in partnership with Changlang District Administration, we are intervening in 20 government primary schools to enable and equip more than 4000 early graders with strong foundational learning abilities and skills. The entire FLN program effort so far has been self-funded.
By raising INR 10,00,000 for the next 3 months we want to educate and impact 4000 children by equipping and enabling them with a strong academic foundation. The cost per child to impact one child is Rs 250.
Through your contribution we will be able to multiply our impact as the contribution will support the remunerations of our team, program managers, physical training for stakeholders-parents, government teachers, education officials, with the ultimate goal to impact the children.
