Samovila Foundation is a Home for Handicapped and Senior community cats and dogs. Started in 2010, registered as a Trust in 2018, we have always been a gypsy shelter- moving from place to place in the outskirts of Mumbai, as Rent in Mumbai is unaffordable. Samovila Foundation is a special animal care center in Palghar where food, medicines and love, all put together, resurrect lives of voiceless souls who have lived a life of neglect and cruelty on the streets.
We have 3 dedicated staff who stay on the premises looking after our furkids, 1 day staff and 1 part time staff who gives support by procuring supplies locally. As on today there are 25 dogs and 45 cats permanently residing at our Home.
Aditionally on a case by case basis, we are fostering and caring for animals in Palghar zone on requests of rescuers here.
So far, mostly funded by private funds, the trustees of Samovila (employed fulltime in Pvt enterprises or self employed) take no salary, no compensation and the Trust receives no government grants.
In Nov 2020, we moved to Palghar on a long lease and constructed a shelter for our furkids with donation and personal funds.
Like every place we have lived in before, at this Home too we do our best so that our furkids live a peaceful,healthy and safe life. This journey has been exhausting emotionally, physically and financially for a Managing Team that is majorly in the 50 plus age group. But it's also our Place of Infinite Happiness. For every decision we take here, we think of how it will affect each of these Furry residents. Coz these are our companions and it's our duty to care for them. SIMPLE.
The 2020s has been particularly tough on community animals as due to negligible Animal Birth Control during the pandemic, there has been an uncontrollable increase in population of community animals causing a lot of Human animal conflict in a semi urban area having almost zero emergency and diagnostics services for Animal Care.
There is an urgent need to step up and to help the animals here actively.
For us, various challenges arose since Covid 19 due to drastic reduction in donor contribution making it a task to meet expenses of rent, salaries and vendor bills.
We are looking for support to continue care to our Residents and the rescues of Palghar.
Together let's give a wonderful Home to our kids.
