thank you to everyone who has participated in keeping the space alive,
me is happy that together we have been able to make a space which becomes memories you share with your friends and dear ones

FLUXUS CHAPEL, a space to open up the definitions of what art can be, as well as take apart what it is to be an artist and what kind of work it requires,

as a space we provide and maintain, a zine and books distro, a simple small space for exhibitions, a lending library, a zine archive, free skool, swap shop and more
we specialize in handpicked zines, used and new art/ design/ film/ photography books and magazines, fiction/ non-fiction/ poetry books, comix and graphic novels, children's books, and other independent publications,
also postcards, prints and paintings, independent, personal, first-hand voices, evidences and prompts, in multiple mediums,
alternate material that may not be available otherwise

this is not the first space me has initiated, it has been an on-going journey since late 1990s, from selling zines at traffic signals, to setting-up zines/ books pop-ups on the sidewalks, to creating reading spaces in chawls/ SRA buildings and garages, to appearing outside and inside fancier art spaces for tiny bits, to now this

one of the motivations in creating FLUXUS CHAPEL was also to have a constant space for works from our other community spaces, and me hopes that eventually surpluses made here and friends / well-wishers found here will help sustain those spaces more comfortably

moving forward, me wishes to further expend the other three core aspects of the space,CHOTA GALLERY and CHOTA LIBRARY and BOMBAY ZINE LIBRARY
about CHOTA GALLERY :
a  dedicated  children’s  art  space,  where  the  general  public  can  come  and  see  children’s  feelings,  their  thoughts,  their  aspirations,  their  worries,  remember  we  all  were  born  artists,  maybe  we  could  still  rewind,  remind  and  reconnect,
about CHOTA LIBRARY :
a community lending library, as kids most of us lacked art and design books in our homes nor did we have easy access to such books elsewhere, for many families, taking care of basic needs always won over buying books, this kind of remained same as we grew older
hence to start with, me is bringing in my own collection of more than thousand handpicked art/ design/ film/ photography books and magazines, fiction/ non-fiction/ poetry books, comix and graphic novels, children's books and other independent publications
about BOMBAY ZINE LIBRARY,
with a collection of over thousand zines, in the past twelve years since its inception, the zine library has had fixed space for a few years and no space on other occasions, popping-up at various locations.
zine libraries have always been a place to learn something new, get inspired, discuss, interact, meet friends, connect with local makers and get involved with various forms of accessible media. self-published ephemera like zines, handbills, and independent newspapers can provide a glimpse into a part of history that includes the voices of marginalized individuals and groups which would otherwise be lost were they not collected. since before alternative publications are a natural and important tool for preserving free speech.

our libraries always actively engage users as content creators, from reading publications to publishing independently
we also facilitate a few other smaller books distribution set-ups.

me tries and hopes FLUXUS CHAPEL becomes the space which reminds us all to address the mess within us before we engage with the revolutions outside us

me needs you :
ever since our beginnings in 1999, me has always run our community spaces pretty much independently, mostly through contributions from individuals and sales of our zines and books and similar ventures,
compared to my earlier endeavours, location-wise and activities-wise, this is a more ambitious plan so as to bring to the center what otherwise exists in the margins,
also, me chose a shop front as it allows almost anyone to enter the space without the inhibitions of entering an art space, and those who know how we work, also know the care me is taking in letting it evolve into a space more than just a shop or an art gallery,
in the course of the five years that this space has existed, we have shown works by more than three hundred makers, and from various classes, age groups and countries,
the space is designed such that each one showing here contributes their corresponding share to the running costs of the space,
the maker decides the price for their work and gets to keep all the moneys from the sale of their work ( no cut or commission deducted )
as of now via the contributions we are able to raise half of the required moneys to keep the space running
me believes in the course of time we will have enough makers contributing so that the space survives organically,

opening this up to everyone of you, for your contributions/ participation to figure where fluxus can go from here
would you like to contribute half of the moneys required towards sustaining the space,
--- 9,00,000 INR ( 12 x 75,000 INR per month ) HALF of rent and maintenance costs for a year
--- 3,60,000 INR ( 12 x 30,000 INR per month ) salary to the library/ space attendant
--- 1,50,000 INR brokerage
--- 1,20,000 INR metal book shelves
--- 30,000 INR initial set-up
--- 30,000 INR  fund raising costs
--- 60,000 INR emergency fund
in all we need 16,50,000 INR to cover our expenses with the new space in the coming year

you could also start a 'support fundraiser' , the option is available below
