My father, Mr Hem Chandra Pandey (aged 64), is battling a life-threatening condition and is in urgent need of a new liver to survive.
He is suffering from an end-stage liver disease with no known cure. His current condition has advanced to the point of no return. A transplant is the only available option to save his life.
He is stable enough right now to undergo the treatment successfully. The doctors have given us excellent chances of success and recovery, only if the transplant is done as soon as possible (within weeks). If all goes well, doctors have told us he will be as healthy as any other 64-year-old within a year!
Because of Indian laws on living-donor liver transplants, I, Kanishka Pandey (aged 25), am hoping to be a match and successfully donate my liver to save my father’s life. But we need your help to make this possible. 🙏
The doctors have told us that the operation can cost as high as 25-30 lakhs if it goes smoothly and without complications. However, they have also warned us that the cost of the treatment can rise to twice or even thrice as expensive if there are any complications during or after the surgery.
MEDICAL HISTORY
My father was diagnosed with an autoimmune-related disease called Ulcerative Colitis in 2012, which went into remission in four months and has been in remission since.
But he was diagnosed with an additional ailment that affects the liver called Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) in 2018, which was confirmed with an MRI in February 2019.
In PSC, inflammations in the liver cause scars within the bile ducts. These scars make these ducts hard and narrow and gradually cause serious liver damage.
His current state has progressed to cirrhosis of the liver, where the whole liver is scarred and cannot be stopped or controlled from getting worse.
In addition, he has also exhibited a common symptom of end-stage liver disease called ascites, where the abdomen gets filled with fluid inside the body. This fluid itself can become dangerous if it leads to infection and other issues.
He has also developed oesophagal varices, which are abnormal, enlarged veins in the food pipe which usually develop when blood flow to the liver is blocked. These veins have a high risk of rupturing, causing bleeding and life-threatening complications. He has already undergone a procedure to fix these varices and doctors have told us he will need that procedure at least once or twice again.
Fortunately, currently, his liver enzyme results are excellent and doctors have told us now is the best time to go ahead with the transplant if we can.
His health will only continue to deteriorate and get worse the longer we wait.
We need your help to save my father and give him another chance at life. No amount of money is small enough. Any amount will make a huge difference for us. There is also an option to pay anonymously without other people knowing. 🙏
Please also share this with your friends, family and within your organisation/company.
PS - Any donation not utilised or in excess will be forwarded to another life-saving cause.
