This is an initiative by television celebrities Amit Bargav and Sriranjani associated with Activist Nimal Raghavan for Oxygen Concentrators in Thanjavur and Pudukkottai region.

About the cause:

About 500 villages in and around the Thanjavur and Pudukkottai districts are affected and worst hit by the pandemic. Many daily wagers and farmers have lost their jobs because of the lockdown. The increasing number of Covid cases and the lack of medical facilities have made the situation worse and people are struggling for beds, oxygen, ventilators, and critical care. Many have lost their lives in the past one month and we are seeing an average of 200 new Covid cases every day.

There are only very few hospitals upon which the entire community is dependent on and it has run out of beds and oxygen cylinders at the moment. We are a group of volunteers working for the welfare of the farmers and their livelihood since the times of the Gaja cyclone(2018) and we are trying to do our best to help them survive this pandemic. 

We have been doing a lot of fieldwork in collaboration with NGOs like the Lions club and the state government officials in terms of lake restoration and water-body preservation. Our primary objective now is to provide medical equipment that are critical for treating patients in and around Tanjore and Pudukkottai.

We are raising funds to source at least 20 oxygen concentrators with a flow rate of 10 litres so that at least 40 patients will be benefited at once.

An oxygen concentrator with a 5-litre flow rate costs Rs.85000 and we need 20 such concentrators at the moment to save lives. The total cost amounts to Rs.19,00000 (Nineteen lakhs). As it would take at least 10 days for us to receive the concentrators after placing the order, we request all of you to contribute whatever you can so that we can together save many lives.

Alongside concentrators, we are also trying to arrange for ambulances to help our people commute to hospitals as necessary. As the first phase of relief measures during such tough times, we have taken up this initiative and with your support, we are sure we would be able to buy the necessary medical equipment and arrange ambulance services for the people of Tanjore and Pudukkottai.
