    Harpal Singh

    from Dineshpur, Uttarakhand

Harpal Singh ji is a *37 year old marginal farmer with a land holding of 2 acres from Dineshpur in Uddam Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand.* He lives with his wife, a son who studies in the 8th class and a daughter who studies in the 11th class. Like many of the farmers supporting the farmer struggle, he hoped that the farm movement against the 3 farm laws would change his life for the better. With this goal in mind, he had gone to  Lakhimpur to support the call given. He has also responded to SKM calls and suffered financial losses due to his nearly continuous presence at the Ghazipur border in the past year. 3rd October 2021* was a day that upturned his life. He was one of those who were run over by the Thar vehicle and found himself injured seriously. He says he doesn't remember what happened and may have lost  consciousness. He was helped by fellow farmer supporters who took him to a nearby hospital where they were told that he had fractures in both his legs....and numerous abrasions. The fractures needed to be stabilized via surgery, and he decided to go to *Rudrapur City which is about 200 kilometres away from Lakhimpur Kheri, and about 15 kms away from his hometown of Dineshpur.*
In Rudrapur he was operated upon to stabilize bones of his right foot **fractures of the 1st/2nd/3rd metatarsal besides a fracture of the left fibula bone*, in the leg.
He has had to have further treatments and medications and most recently when *he had gone to give his testimony as witness on 15th December, 2021** he was attacked by monkeys in the court compound. While protecting himself, he again banged his foot against the gate of the compound. This instabilized the bones of his foot once again and he lost all the progress he had made. He had to undergo painful medical procedures once again and is back on complete bed rest. This has caused him to become depressed and disheartened since he has received *no financial support either from the government. He has *mortgaged his land for an amount of rupees two lakhs* , his *children's fees are pending since a year, his savings are depleted and he now has no source of income.*
This is an appeal to all to come forward in whatever way we can with whatever contribution you can. We, from the *Farmers Solidarity WhatsApp Group* are looking to raise an *amount of Rs.400000 to cover his children's school fees, his treatment and to pay loan to get his land back*
