    This fundraiser will benefit

    Haran Subramanian

    from California

Haran is my 28 year old nephew - a bright, handsome, determined, vibrant young man, with a Masters in Biomedical Science from Iowa State University, and working for Axar Pharmaceuticals for over 2 years.

On behalf of his parents, my sister Asha Subramanian and brother-in-law Hari (Subu) Subramanian, I am raising funds for Haran's medical costs right now (beyond what his insurance covers),  and ongoing medical needs.

Haran was visiting his parents’ house on 9/11 for the weekend. As result of a freak accident, he fell and hit his head on the concrete floor outside. He was found unconscious by his dad. He was taken to ER at Orange Country Global Health Trauma Center, where he was immediately rushed to OR for Brain Surgery and Craniotomy due to severe brain swelling. He was in induced coma for 10 days. After that, he went through Tracheostomy and PEG procedures. He has also developed aspiration pneumonia for which he is still being treated.

On Oct 1st, Haran was moved from Orange County Global Health ICU to a LTAC facility (Long Term Acute Care), while still in semi-comatose state, for his continued recovery. He has a fabulous team of doctors and therapists as part of his care team.

On Oct 6th, while Asha and Subu were talking, he slowly opened his eyes and seemed to follow the direction of their voice. He lifted his left hand. During the conversation, he moved his lips, puckered his lips, showed disapproval on his face at times, gave us a small smile and even attempted to turn his head to the left. We were delighted to see this progress. Baby steps but we are celebrating every little bit of progress. Due to current pandemic, no one is allowed at the hospital. Asha and Subu have been able to see Haran in person only couple of times. They are able to face-time to see him and talk to him every day.

Brain is a mystery. Where science and medicine ends, his attitude, personality and support system kicks in and takes the drivers seat for the recovery.  Miracles do happen.  Prayers and positive vibes helps with the healing.  With the determination Haran has, we are confident about his recovery.

Haran has an army of supporters during this difficult journey – his immediate family, extended family, family friends and many friends that he has made along the way. Everyone is praying and sending positive energy for his recovery.

Please continue to pray for him every single day – he needs all the energy we can send his way to fight through this.
