With an aim to encourage the rural kids get into the habit of reading, Happy World Foundation is in the process of setting up Digital Libraries in the 5 villages covered under Project JnanaShala starting with Kottagalu, followed by Chikkakalabalu, Belaguli, Cheeluru and Pichanakere (located in Ramanagara District).

Project JnanaShala is an education based initiative targeted at young kids living in rural villages of Karnataka. The Project has covered 5 villages in the Ramanagara district of Karnataka, since the launch on 21st November 2020, that has helped rural kids studying in Classes 5th to 10th (a) attend regular online classes broadcasted through DD Chandana channel at the fully equipped Community Centres setup by the NGO and b) participate in weekly sessions on “Values and Characters” delivered through Storytelling.

None of the 5 villages has a proper or decent Library for children studying in these rural schools and hence they suffer from lack of exposure and poor access to the outside world. With a motive to inculcate reading and help rural kids develop personality, the NGO plans to equip the villages with Digital libraries. They will be managed by a “Grama Gelathi” (Lady Facilitator) appointed by the NGO in all the 5 villages.

The Libraries will follow an hybrid model where Books available as hard copies will be supplemented by “Kiosks” offering digital content. Each digital library is expected to benefit not less than 500 rural students in the 5 Villages. Though the Libraries are targeted at rural kids aged 8-14 years, even Adults can enjoy the benefit.

Happy World Foundation firmly believes that “if we want to change anything in rural India, we must reach out to children in our villages. A child’s grasping power is at the peak at this age, which has a lasting impact”. The books could belong to different genres like Kannada translations of Sudha Murthy or A P J Abdul Kalam book, biographies, books on science, drama, music, sex education, astronauts, motivational books, daily newspapers, monthly magazines, wildlife and, of course, fiction.

The NGO seeks generous donation from you, to support the Digital Library initiative. The amount you donate shall be spent on a) physical infrastructure for the Library, b) purchase of equipment to set up Online Kiosks for digital content, c) Books to be purchased and d) running operational cost.

Your Donation is eligible for Tax benefit u/s 80G of IT Act)
