Dear Friend,
We need to raise 5 Lakhs in 2 weeks, and we need your help! We invite you to be part of an urgent and transformative movement—Haan Hum, a collective of sex workers in Kamathipura using art and theatre to reclaim their voices, dignity, and space in the city.
We complete three years in June! We need your help!!!
Through our workshops, exhibitions, and performances, our participants have stepped out of the brothels after decades, formed strong networks, and built creative expressions that challenge societal stigmas. Now, we seek your support to take this journey further.
In 2025, we are organizing two landmark events: a week-long Artist Residency From May 31- June 6, at The Company Theatre, Maharashtra leading to Kamatipura Kala Mela in November, where our participants will develop their art practices, create installations, and perform their stories through Theatre of the Oppressed. This will be the first time sex workers take center stage at a public festival, engaging audiences in dialogue through their lived experiences. Once launched, this exhibition will travel across the country and foster international collaborations.
However, we face a severe funding crunch and are even considering personal loans to make this happen. Your contribution can make a direct impact. Below is the detailed budget breakdown for INR 5,00,000 needed to bring this vision to life:
For three years, our participants have created powerful works—large-scale paintings, zines, doll-making, multimedia installations, cyanotype printing, rangoli, and self-portraits. Many have begun their own at-home art practices and have even developed intricate clay figurines. Through this work, they have built confidence, strengthened community bonds, and reclaimed public spaces.
We have worked voluntarily, building a trusted network of sex workers who are now emerging as leaders, facilitators, and artists. With a solid succession plan in place, we are ensuring that the community takes ownership of the movement, allowing us to expand to other geographies. But we need resources to sustain this work without compromising our values of dignity, equality, and self-liberation.
We have registered as AHEAD FOUNDATION, a NGO with 80G provisional certificate. AHEAD stands for our values—Art, Hope, Equality, Autonomy, Dialogue. Your donation will directly support artists, facilitate creative skill-building, and ensure that sex workers continue to occupy spaces that have long excluded them. We invite you to be part of this radical change.
