"At Greensole, we recycle discarded shoes to comfortable slippers, keeping them away from landfills and provide them to children in need. We have so far provided footwear to 100000 school kids across 350 school and at the same time saved about 5 lakh pounds of carbon emissions by recycling" - Shriyans Bhandari, Founder Greensole

Why we started our journey at Greensole?

As an athlete I ran hundreds of kilometres every year. I also ran through at least three to four pairs of sport shoes every year. The soles were in good condition but the shoe sides tore within months. As I kept throwing these quality shoes in the dustbin there were kids going to school without footwear. I always wondered if I could find some use for the intact soles of these quality sport shoes. A bit of research led to the idea of refurbishing them into trendy slippers. That brainwave eventually spawned an eco-friendly enterprise that reuses shoe soles and is appropriately named Greensole.

Beneficiaries

We have so far made a humble start by providing footwear to 100,000 school kids in need across 350 schools in 13 states of India. Currently we get around 10000 pairs of old shoes every month and want to scale up our effort of recycling. In 2019, we will provide footwear to 150,000 more school kids across villages in India, helping them walk to school and preventing them from diseases like Elephantiasis and hookworm which are caused by lack of footwear.

Fundraiser

It costs us 199 INR for every pair of footwear. In order to recycle and distribute these to those in need, while simultaneously benefiting the environment, we require funds. These funds shall be used to recycle and donate 7500 pairs of slippers to underprivileged school children across India.
