Prem Yatra (Chapter Uttarakhand): A Journey of Impact, Harmony and Love
Prem Yatra by Zindagi Mubarak in collaboration with Volunteer Yatra is a traveling music project that aims to bring people together across divides—through song, dance, and shared joy. It is our humble, heartfelt attempt to build a countrywide musical movement—one that begins not in big cities or grand concert halls, but on the streets, in schools, and in the hearts of everyday people in the rural, semi-urban and urban towns of Uttarakhand.
🌱 Our Vision & Purpose
In many homes across India, especially where families earn ₹12,000 a month or less, music education is a distant dream. Instruments are too expensive. Opportunities are rare. And yet, the talent is everywhere.
We are on a mission to travel across India, teaching music to children from underserved communities—kids who may have never held an instrument or been encouraged to dream creatively.
In each place we visit, we will train local children in basic music and songwriting and gift a Music Kit (ukulele + kazoo + shaker) to one child per district who shows potential and passion—so they can continue to explore music, even after we move on.
Because we believe that music should belong to everyone—not just those who can afford it.
🎵 Why Music?
Music is powerful. It heals, connects, and empowers. Whether sung around a fire, strummed on a ukulele in a schoolyard, or hummed on a quiet walk through the hills, music reminds us we are not alone.
Through this journey, we’ll also revive and celebrate local folk music, giving it a fresh, modern touch that the local community—especially the children—can relate to and be proud of.

We’re launching our first chapter in Uttarakhand—a 2-month grassroots yatra across 13 districts, from June 1 to Oct 30, 2025. With our ukuleles, voices, and open hearts, we will conduct:
- Free street performances
- Music workshops with children in schools and NGOs
- One-on-one music mentorship
- Gifting of Music Kits to selected children with potential
What Will We Do?
In each of the 13 districts, local people will get to participate in the following programs, free of cost:
Free India Movement – Dance on your local streets as if no one is watching. We hope for our streets to become a safe space for people of all age, gender, caste and class. In dancing together without boundaries, we express true freedom.
Bol De – Open mics under the open sky and in our selected venues, inviting local communities to participate- from sharing their voices to singing their truths.
Bada Maza Aayega – Collaborate with one school and one NGO in each district for a one-day workshop on songwriting and playing ukulele through interactive and reflective exercises. Make songs with children through these workshops, encouraging them to tell their own stories through writing and singing. Donate one Music Kit (ukulele + kazoo + shaker) to a selected child in each district.
Roots and Wings – Connecting local folk culture with world music. Staying within local communities and listening to their stories would facilitate our understanding of their lived realities.

Who Are We?
Prem Yatra is an initiative of Zindagi Mubarak—a community of indie artists, musicians, and changemakers led by Dev, a former corporate professional turned wanderer of love. Raised in a lower middle-class background, Dev experienced firsthand the everyday struggles faced by countless people in India, where access to basic resources is often a luxury. Although he had the chance to climb the corporate ladder and secure a comfortable life for his family, he recognized that many others were left behind, still struggling to afford the bare minimum. In observing these social inequities, he came to believe that the only true catalyst for change in our society is love— Ishq.
This belief led to the creation of “Ishqestan” (Prem Pradesh) —meaning "land of love," or as we call it, “United States of Love.” It is a registered sole proprietorship that encapsulated Dev’s dream. With self-funding and the support of compassionate hosts and fellow travellers, he set off on a global mission exploring 26 countries along the way. Through his songs—self-composed, self-written, and performed with heartfelt humility—he started spreading his message of love wherever he went.
Upon returning to India, a nation divided by religion, gender, class, caste, and age, Dev realized that the revolution must begin at home. He collaborated with a vibrant community of indie artists and creative souls who shared his vision. Under the banner of Zindagi Mubarak, they collaborated and began crafting songs that not only celebrate life but also advocate for essential human rights such as social justice, bodily autonomy, and sexual freedom.
Volunteer Yatra is an innovative initiative that combines travel with volunteering, offering individuals the opportunity to explore rural India while contributing their skills to support local communities.
What is Volunteer Yatra?
Founded by Aakash Maan in 2021, Volunteer Yatra connects travelers—referred to as "Yatris"—with rural hosts across India. In exchange for their skills, Yatris receive free accommodation and meals, allowing them to immerse themselves in local cultures affordably and contribute meaningfully to community development.
