Today 95% of primary grade children in Sonkhamb, a nomadic Bharwad community settlement, are literate and aspiring to go to nearby towns for further education. In October 2019, when Learning Companions started its journey in Sonkhamb, no child was enrolled in school nor was able to read or write. We at Learning Companions are working directly with 5 learning centres in the Bharwad community, helping about 180 children. We are also working with 13 centres through partner organisations, helping shape the lives of over 500 children from tribal, nomadic, and urban migrated communities. 
Connected with the children at Sonkhamb, is the story of Vishal. Vishal got through his schooling with traumatic experiences due to a lack of good educators and poor infrastructure. He chose a career path that he did not enjoy, out of pressure from family and peers. His career and educational misfortunes reversed when he found an opportunity to do what he loves, in working with Learning Companions. Today, having completed 3 years of fellowship and gaining invaluable teaching experience at Learning Companions, he is working as an Associate with the Akanksha Foundation in Nagpur, to transform 100 municipal schools, impacting the lives of about 9000 children.
Learning Companions is a meta-organisation both working directly with children impacting their education and helping other organisations as well in developing the future education leaders of India to transform education countrywide. Today we serve over 1200 children through direct and indirect intervention, shaping the journey of over 45 education leaders, and exchanging education and human resources with over 20 organisations to create equitable learning opportunities for our children. We, at Caring Mitra Foundation, are raising funds here on Milaap as part of Learning Companions (Caring Mitra Foundation)'s fund-raising plan for the upcoming financial year. Our budget for the upcoming financial year is approximately 49.95 lakhs. For the upcoming financial year, we have about 12 lakhs of committed funding from previous donors. We intend to raise the rest of the 38 lakhs through a combination of new CSR/Individual donors, and crowdfunding. These funds will help us serve over 180 children directly and over 500 children through our partner organisations/indirect impact for a grand total which is a small cost of about Rs. 735/Month/Child.
