The Times of India reports that as of 2023, there were 91 lakh street cats and 6.2 crore stray canines living on Indian streets. These include the animals that have lived the entirety of their lives on the streets, or have been abandoned owing to the growing societal preference for "tasteful" dog breeds over our Indie dogs. These animals are further subjected to abuse, mistreatment, and neglect at the hands of local residents and passer-bys. With growing urbanization, the human-animal conflict is continuing to compound. For peaceful co-existence and structural change, both individual involvement and macro-level policy decisions are needed.

Dedicated to increasing awareness and promoting focused fundraising initiatives, the Indian Animal Welfare Network was established with the goal of improving the lives of stray animals in Indian cities. To be more precise, the Indian Animal Welfare Network uses a community-centric approach to animal welfare and enhances the human-animal interface in metropolitan metropoles by curating educational resources for a variety of audiences and supporting animal rights NGOs in expanding their reach and scope of operation.

The Indian Animal Welfare Network now seeks to raise funds to support the Delhi-based organization Friendicoes. Friendicoes SECA, founded in 1975, is among the most active animal welfare organizations in the city, with their work spanning across rescued and rehabilitation, neuter and vaccination drives, adoption drives, feeding programs, lifetime care sanctuaries, and accidents and disaster relief work. As a non-profit charity, Friendicoes relies heavily on external support and donations to continue their work.

The Ruff Day Fundraiser was initiated to support the tireless efforts of Friendicoes, and the funds raised will be used to curate adoption care kits which will include necessary supplies and medications to support the organization’s work in homing abandoned, injured, and stray animals.
