A fundraiser to aid disadvantaged artists
Imagine having your whole life swept from under you overnight! This is how the marginalised folk artists felt when the lockdown was first announced in 2020. We are not just trying to stress the grave severity of their present state but, we ask you - Have you ever pondered the future implications this pandemic would have on their mental, physical, and economic well-being? Performance art is their life, or it at least was. What do they do when that is no more a possibility? While the hope for a better tomorrow and revived performance opportunities lingers in their hearts, the prolonged pandemic has turned their lives upside down.
Kumar, a vivacious artist, was at the prime of his career when public performances came to a halt. With a family to feed, a young one-year-old child in hand, he was compelled to give up on his artistic dreams. Forced to work at a crematorium to make ends meet, he watched the bodies burn into ashes night after night, just like his artistic dream. Sekar, a Gana singer from Basin Bridge, an artist, orphaned at a young age, takes care of his paralysed brother, and is the sole earning member of his family. His art brought him all that he needed - money, food, and happiness. He stands alone now, struggling for any opportunity that will allow him to provide his brother a simple meal.
Like Kumar and Sekar, several other artists are suffering the loss of their homes, their jobs, having mouths to feed but no income in hand. These talented artists who were proud breadwinners and cultural torchbearers are left stranded, with no support system and no income opportunity. With each passing day of the pandemic, their ability to stay optimistic reduces.
How Does This Fundraiser Help?
This fundraiser goes beyond the bounds of providing materialistic help and expands itself to ably provide artists with holistic support structures that attend to their overall well-being. We are not working merely for the artists, but we are working WITH them. We have spoken directly to the artists, allowed them to voice their requirements, compiled and audited their needs, and thoughtfully put together a Care Relief Package exclusively for them. In this package we provide:
1. Groceries (wet and dry, inclusive of oil, wheat, dal, vegetables, rice, etc.)
2. Hygiene products (inclusive of masks, soaps, sanitisers)
3. Sanitary products (for female hygiene)
Alongside these care packages, need-based allowances will be set aside for the health and well-being of the artists. Within 4-6 weeks of the Care Relief Package distribution, we plan to check-in with the artists to see if their needs have been met, and support them in any way we can.
Care Relief Package Distribution:
Phase #1: Equip over 400 artists in the North Chennai Area with Care Packages and necessary support
Phase #2: Expand our outreach to folk artists whom we have already identified from neighbouring districts in Tamil Nadu starting with Madurai and Kanchipuram. In addition, we have also gathered artists who are in need from neighbouring States Karnataka and Telangana.
Phase #3: With the inflow of funds, we hope to expand our relief work and reach out to as many marginalised artists, in a humble attempt to save lives and empower these talented individuals. We hope in the next month to support upto 2000 artists in South India.
Who are We?
We, Tenma (Artiste and Music Producer), Gana Muthu (Gana Singer and YouTuber) and Shreya (Arts Development Consultant and Entrepreneur) have come together to make a difference and stand together as allies. As artists, producers and most importantly individuals with a keen understanding of the folk artist community, we want to provide them with immediate and urgent relief.
Gana Muthu, a member of this very community of marginalised folk artists, is engaged in an effort to revive the fading hopes of his peers.

நலிவடைந்த கலைஞர்களுக்கான நிதி திரட்டல்
ஒரே நாளில் உங்கள் முழுவாழ்க்கையில் ஒன்றும் இல்லை என்ற நிலைக்கு துடைத்து எடுத்தால் எப்படி இருக்கும்? சொர்ப்ப வருமானத்தில் விளிம்பு நிலையில் உள்ள நாட்டுப்புற கலைஞர்களுக்கு இப்படித்தான் இருந்தது 2020ல் முதல் முறையாக ஊரடங்கு அறிவித்தப் போது. இந்த கொடுமையான சூழலை மேலும் விவரிப்பதற்கு முன் உங்களிடம் சில கேள்விகள்.
இந்த மாதிரியான பெருந்தொற்று நாட்களில் பாரம்பரிய கலையை வாழ வைக்கும் ஏழை எளிய மக்கள் எப்படி சமாளிப்பார்கள் என்று யோசித்திருக்குறீர்களா? செயல்திறன் கலை தான் அவர்களின் வாழ்க்கையாக இருக்கிறது அல்லது இருந்தது. வருமானத்திற்கு வாய்ப்பு இல்லாத இந்த நிலையில் அவர்கள் என்ன செய்வார்கள்? எப்படியாவது சமாளித்து நாளை மீண்டும் ஒரு மேடை ஏறிவிடலாம் என்ற நம்பிக்கையில் இருந்தவர்கள், நீடிக்கப்பட்ட இப்பெருந்தொற்றுக் காலத்தில் வாழ்வாதாரத்தை முழுவதும் இழந்து தவிக்கின்றனர்.
குமார், ஒரு துடிப்பான கலைஞர். பிரபல தனியிசை சூழலில் தனக்கான ஒரு இடத்தை இன்னும் சொல்லப்போனால் சில உச்சங்களை எட்டிக்கொண்டிருந்த தருணங்கள் அனைத்தும் மாஸ்க் போட்டு கொண்டு ஒரு நாள் காற்றில் தொலைந்தது. மனைவி, குடும்பம், கையில் ஒரு வயதில் ஒரு குழந்தை. வேறுவழியின்றி அவன் இசை கனவை கைவிட்டு மறு புறம் சூழ்நிலையை ஈடுகட்ட வேலை தேடினால் கட்டாயத்தால் சுடுகாட்டில் வெட்டியான் வேலைக்கு தள்ளப்படுகிறார். அங்கு எரியும் சடலங்களுடன் அவர் கண்ட லட்சியமும் கருகி சாம்பலாகும் வலியுடன் நிற்கிறார்.
சேகர், ஒரு கானா பாடகர். புளியந்தோப்பில் வசிக்கும் ஒரு கலைஞர். சிறு வயதிலே பெற்றோரை இழந்தவர். பக்கவாதத்தால் படுத்த படுக்கையாய் இருக்கும் சகோதரனை கவனித்துக்கொண்டு, தன் குடும்பத்தின் பசிக்காக ஓடும் ஒரு சக்கரம். முன்பு சேகரின் கலைத்தொழில் அவருக்கு தேவையான வசதிகள், நல்ல உணவு, மன நிம்மதி, மகிழ்ச்சி அனைத்தும் தந்தது. இன்று தன் குடும்பத்தின் ஒரு வேலை உணவுக்காக போராடி வருகிறார்.
குமார் மற்றும் சேகரை போல் இன்று உறவுகளை இழந்து, வேலைவாய்ப்பு இல்லாமல், வறுமையின் கொடுமையில் சிக்கித் தவிக்கும் எத்தனையோ கலைஞர்கள் உள்ளனர். நம் தமிழர்களின் கலை மற்றும் பாரம்பரியத்தினை வாழ வைப்பவர்கள் அவர்கள், நாம் ரசிக்கும் மக்கள் இசைக்கு உயிர்க் கொடுப்பவர்கள், நம் அடையாளம், அதற்கு நேர்மாறாக இன்று அவர்களுக்கு உதவவோ வழிகாட்டவோ யாரும் இல்லாமல் ஒரு கட்டத்தில் தாம் வாழ்க்கையில் ஏன் பெரிதாக சாதிக்க வேண்டும் என்ற கனவுகளை தமக்குள்ளேயே புதைக்கின்றனர்.
திரட்டப்படும் நிதி எவ்வாறு பயன்படும்?
பொருள் ரிதியிலான உதவி என்ற எல்லைக்குள் நிற்காமல், நாட்டுப்புற மற்றும் கானா கலைஞர்களின் வாழ்க்கை பூரண நலன் பெரும் வகையில் கட்டமைக்கப்பட்ட திட்டத்தின் மூலம் இந்த நிதி செலவிடப்படும். நாங்கள் கலைஞர்களுக்காக பணியாற்றவில்லை மாறாக அவர்களுடனேயே இணைந்து இயங்கவுள்ளோம். முதலில் நம் அன்பு மக்களின் அத்தியாவசிய தேவைகளை கருத்தில் கொண்டு, அவர்களுடன் கலந்துரையாடி, பின்பு நன்கு பரிசீலனை செய்து, உதவி திட்டங்கள் போடப்பட்டன. உடனடி நிவாரணமாக அத்தியாவசிய பொருட்கள் அடங்கிய பிரத்யேக தொகுப்பு ஒவ்வொரு குடும்பத்திற்கும் வழங்கப்படும்.
வழங்கப்படும் அத்தியாவசியத் தொகுப்பின் உள்ளடக்கம் என்ன?
1. மளிகைப் பொருட்கள் (ஈர மற்றும் உலர்ந்தவைகள் உதாரணத்திற்கு எண்ணெய், கோதுமை, பருப்பு, காய்கறி, அரிசி போன்றவை)
2. பிரத்தியேக சுகாதார பொருட்கள் (முகக்கவசங்கள், சானிடைசர், சோப்பு போன்றவை)
3. பெண்களின் சுகாதாரம் (சானிட்டரிப்பேட்)
மேலும் தேவைக்கேற்ப ரொக்கமாக ஒரு சிறு நிவாரண தொகை வழங்கப்படும். மீண்டும் 4-6 வாரங்களுக்கு பிறகு அந்த கலைஞரை தொடர்புகொண்டு பொருட்களை விநியோகம் செய்வதோடு சேர்த்து தனிப்பட்ட விதத்தில் அவரின் கலை வாழ்வின் தரத்தை உயர்த்த வழிகாட்டுவோம்.
நிவாரண பொருட்கள் சரியாக சென்றடைய
முதல் கட்டம்: உடனடியாக வடசென்னையில் வாழும் நானூறு கானா இசைக் கலைஞர்களுக்கு உதவிகள் வழங்கப்படும்.
இரண்டாம் கட்டம்: தமிழகம் முழுவதும் உள்ள நாட்டுப்புற கலைஞர்களை சென்றடையும் நோக்கில் முதலில் மதுரை மற்றும் காஞ்சிபுரம் சுற்றியுள்ள ஊர்களில் வாழும் பாமரக் கலைஞர்களின் பட்டியலைத் தயாரித்து அவர்களுக்கு உதவிகள் வழங்கப்படும்.
கர்நாடகா, தெலுங்கானா போன்ற மாநிலங்களில் வாழும் நாட்டுப்புற கலைஞர்களை அடையாளம் கண்டுள்ளோம். அவர்களுக்கும் உதவிகள் சென்றடையும்.
மூன்றாம் கட்டம்: நிதியை வைத்து வறுமையால் வாடும் நாட்டுப்புற கலைஞர்களும் திறமைசாலிகளும் வாழ்க்கையில் முன்னேற பயன்படுத்துவோம். அடுத்த மாதத்திற்குள் தென் இந்தியாவில் இரண்டாயிரம் கலைஞர்ளுக்கு உதவி பொருட்களும் ஆதரவும் தருவது முக்கியதிட்டம்.

டென்மா (தனி இசை கலைஞர் மற்றும் இசை அமைப்பாளர்), கானா முத்து (கானாப் பாடகர் மற்றும் யூட்யூப் கலைஞர்) மற்றும் ஷ்ரேயா (கலை மேம்பாட்டு ஆலோசகர் மற்றும் தொழில்முனைவர்) எனும் நாங்கள் மூவர் இணைந்திருக்கிறோம். இந்த பேரிடர் காலத்தில் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட கலைஞர்களின் வாழ்வில் ஒரு மாற்றத்தை ஏற்படுத்த அக்கறையோடு தொடர்ந்து உழைப்போம்.
