Project Turning Tides is a social initiative created with the aim of empowering fishing communities in India’s Marine Protected Areas. We recognize the vital role these communities play in protecting and nurturing the biodiversity in these areas. While supporting fisher communities is our primary mission, we also acknowledge that a lack of societal awareness about marine conservation and sustainability is undermining their efforts to safeguard vulnerable coastal ecosystems. 

Our project focuses on educating communities on coastal conservation, climate change, and marine sustainability through short-form and long-form educational resources as well as expert-led workshops. With these efforts, we hope to equip this population with the knowledge and tools to adopt sustainable and mindful fishing practices. 

Project Turning Tides, in partnership with the NGO Hamari Pahchan, is now hosting an online fundraising event, proceeds of which will be used to acquire and distribute sustainable fishing gear and tools to the Koli fishing community of Mumbai. Your contributions will support them as they transition to environmentally responsible fishing methods, fostering a healthier marine ecosystem along India’s coastline.
