Most of our work has been centred around raising the awareness of the families who come from tribal and indigenous background. They are mostly illiterate artists, lacking support or orientation to take a shift towards literacy. Understaffed government schools have made a poor impression and those (usually male children) who do attend have little to show for it. Through years of counselling, the parents have come to understand the value and necessity of their daughters' accessing literacy and channelling their energy to fulfil their goals of a healthy, empowering and engaging life.
In June 2019, 10 children out of the 77 children who attended the Sunflower Learning Centre received individual sponsorship and began studies at SMPS private school. Due to Corona, schools shut down in March 2020. The children have been eagerly waiting to continue their education.
As of 2021, we have 10 girls and 6 boys ready for their 2nd year of school sponsorship. This year we have chosen Vishwas Educational Academy due to the well rounded activities, foundational values and quality of teaching staff. The children also require a daily tiffin for these 10 1/2 school attendance months of the year. As their families are all below poverty line and are unable to provide proper nutritious meals which the children require for concentration in studies.
We are reaching out to all of you sponsors to donate towards the annual school fees and related costs. All contributions are used for this purpose ONLY.
The daily tiffin consists of:
--Rice/Roti and Dhal
--1 fruit (Banana, or seasonal variety)
--Green Salad (fresh cucumber and tomato)
For most of the children, this is their sole nutritious meal of the day.
