    Epiphany High School

    from Pune, Maharashtra

Epiphany High School is a low-income private school operating out of the locality of Guruwar Peth, Pune. It strives to provide a holistic education to students from less fortunate families, owing to their socio-economic status in the picking chain of the working-class society. As our families struggle to make ends meet, close to 30-40% of our students are often found incapable of depositing tuition fee and are required to be waived off with many more such students, sponsored externally. Fees are collected towards the end of the academic year as parents save up throughout their child’s grade level.

Our staff too comes from varying backgrounds and takes up residence in the same communities we serve. Many of us here earn wages to make possible a hand-to-mouth lifestyle for ourselves and our loved ones.

The global pandemic of COVID-19 has brought even that lifestyle to a standstill. With schools closed indefinitely without year-end examinations and registers full of cases of tuition fee dues, our parents and teachers have been left scrambling, burning through meagre savings to keep food on the table every day.

With some assistance from external organizations like Magic Bus India and Teach for India, we have been able to reach out to a fraction of our most needy families. Due to the shutting down of businesses their finances have been thrown into jeopardy with no scope left for paying for this academic year as it closes. This has, in turn, made it impossible for us to pay our teaching and non-teaching staff this month as the school enjoys no other source of revenue apart from the nominal tuition fee it charges.

With the lockdown extending imminently beyond months in Maharashtra, the administration of our school is left thinking about those of us who will not be able to pull through these trying times. We are thus inviting sponsors and donations from patrons and well-wishers to keep the school afloat and standing, to be able to meet our children’s needs when they come out of their homes and this catastrophic pandemic in times to come. Help of any kind is appreciated and will be welcomed with immense gratitude and indebtedness.
