Story

Most of us reading this have braved these unprecedented times. Our losses, grief, frustration, impatience, it’s been a lot to worry about. But we have been fighting it out with all our might and come hell or high water, we will soon be victorious. However, shifting our glance to the ones less fortunate will make us realise that we belong to the privileged lot in this battle. The urban poor of the city - house helps, drivers, small time non-essential vendors, laundrymen, cobblers, rickshaw pullers, daily wage earners, the men and women who run this city and our daily lives are struggling to make ends meet. Many have left for their native hamlets, and many have stayed back, hopeful and waiting for times to be kinder. We, their city, need to show them that we are here for them like they have been for us.

Ration-al, Ration For All, started when we got an SOS call to deliver cooked meals to covid affected EWS families. After successfully delivering more than 1,000 meals to such families in Karol Bagh and Samaypur Badli, we decided to scale up our project and deliver dry ration kits to those worst affected by the pandemic.

Our kits include cereals, pulses, sugar, spices, cooking oil, soaps, masks, sanitisers - essentials required for a family of four to manage two square meals a day and basic living. We are procuring these materials from marginal farmers of U.P, M.P, which is financially helping them brave the pandemic. A group of great spirited volunteers, NGOs ensure that they are delivered right at the doorsteps of these households. Checks and balances have been put in place to ensure the needy get it and none of it is misappropriated. Each kit costs Rs. 1200, a manageable amount for many of us in the city, to feed a family for a week. So far, we have managed about 200 kits worth Rs. 2,24,000/- including transportation and logistics charges. We have set a target of Rs. 60,00,000 for 5000 kits till September 2021.

Most of us are already doing our bit, some are looking for opportunities to help and few wish to help more. Our vision it to send ration to as many families as possible across the country to try and make it easier for them to get through this unprecedented tough time. Please add to this pool as much as you can. It will be a great service to those who have been the backbone of the society, every day in this city. Let’s take care of these families one week at a time. Join the drive, donate and share it with as many as you can. Thank you, from all the families who look up to you and yours!
