Drug rehabilitation
This is the process of medical or psychotherapeutic treatment for dependency on psychoactive substances such as alcohol, prescription drugs, and street drugs such as cannabis, cocaine, heroin, or amphetamines.
We are a group, conducting session to spread the awareness on the harmful effects of drug addiction and making people aware on how to free from these bad habits through yoga asanas and meditation.
In my program, I will explain about the harmful effects of alcohol/drug addiction through movies, stories, and presentations followed by Q&A session. My main objective is to educate children in schools and slum areas. I think the probability of drug addiction is more in the childhood stage and therefore, they need to be aware of its impact, so that they do not take up such habits at all.

We will utilize our funds in the following ways:-
1 . Provide stationery items to the children of slums
2 . Provide kitchen groceries to poor families.
3 . Provide medical help like medication and counseling to the addicts.
4 . Also winter is coming so, provide warm clothes or blankets to children, as a way to discourage them from taking drugs in order to survive the cold.
5 . Providing financial help to the widows of drug addicted husbands.

But now you must be thinking - why do I need to participate in this drug de-addiction campaign? The reason behind this is the sorrowful life of my maid (Sushma) and the transformation that her life underwent because of my minor involvement.
Since 2011, I have been teaching yoga to people voluntarily. I did not charge any fee for this because I was taking yoga as a service. With time, my life changed for the better. Subsequently, I went to Swami Shivanand Ashram in Rishikesh in 2016 to pursue a 2-month Vednata course. While living there, I learned the value of helping others to live a balanced life, and I experienced a tremendous change in myself after my return from the Ashram. My new motto "Be good, Do good" inspired me to assist the weaker sections of the society. One day, Sushma(my maid) narrated her woes to me: her husband was alcoholic, she was a victim of domestic abuse, and she was going through financial constraints at that time. After listening to her woes, I decided to speak with her husband. During my conversation with him, I decided to have an agreement with him - I will provide him with one gas cylinder (free) every 3 months if he stops drinking and abusing his family members.
This began my campaign of alcohol de-addiction.
I used to counsel Sushma's husband frequently, and saw gradual improvement in his drinking habits. After three years, their financial condition improved and they were happy. But they were now stressed about their daughter's marriage. It is a huge task to marry off one's daughter in our Indian culture. To ease their minds, my flat mate and I assured them of financial assistance. She was akin to our family member as she had been working for us since 2009. Also, I observed that although her husband had reduced his drinking, he still hadn't got rid of it. I made another arrangement with him - if he stops drinking, we will assist him financially in his daughter's marriage.
Finally, their daughter got married in 2019, and our lives had changed a lot by then. My friend had also found a perfect match for his marriage, and I had shifted from Noida to Gurgaon in 2018. Since we have promised her to help in their daughter's marriage , me and my ex-flat mate , despite we both moved, gave her Rs 1 lakh for their daughter's marriage. That was the happiest moment of our lives! Sushma's husband was sober now and she was happy with the peace and prosperity in her home. Her husband recovered fully and was fulfilling his responsibilities towards his family. This made me realize, how a small contribution on our part, can transform somebody's home. I decided to enlighten more people about the ill effects of drugs. Since then, I have organized free yoga camps in more than 100 drug de-addiction centers and made them aware, on how to stay away from drugs by strengthening their will power through yoga & meditation.
From my personal experience, I feel that, such a work should be done, so that these people are made aware about the ill effects of drugs on time, before they get addicted and then there is no need for them to go to these de-addiction centers. As I take this campaign forward, I have started informing children about the ill effects of drugs, because the habit of intoxication to a large extent starts in the adolescent years, and it should be rooted out in that phase itself.
