In December 2019, we at The Better India made a New Year’s Resolution -- that in 2020, and in the years to follow, we will work with our readers and help sponsor the education of children from low-income backgrounds in Bengaluru.

This is us, sticking to that resolution.

With #ProjectDreamSchool, The Better India is getting together with Dream School Foundation to sponsor the education of 32 children studying in government, semi government-aided and private schools.

These are students from low-income backgrounds in Bengaluru who have finished their higher primary schooling from government schools in the city but are at risk of dropping out because of their difficult financial situations.

With your support, The Better India aims to help them finish their schooling while ensuring they receive the holistic education they deserve.

About Dream School Foundation (DSF):

DSF is an Indian Non-Governmental Organization working to make quality education, overall development and a happy childhood a certain reality for children.

Started by Maitreyee Kumar, DSF works on the holistic development of government schools. The team works closely with the management of government schools in the city to understand their issues and challenges. From improving enrollment and retention to providing infrastructure support like toilets and classroom constructions, they identify problems and execute various solutions.

Through their HeadStart programme, DSF focuses on the issue of dropouts at the high school stage and works closely with students and their teachers to ensure that the student continues until Class 10. The programme provides financial assistance, academic coaching and mentoring support to the kids.

“Many times there are kids who are academically bright and want to move to semi government-aided or private schools after Class 8. But their financial resources are limited. So we help them get into better schools, financially support them and monitor their progress for the next three years until they complete class 10,” says Maitreyee.

This is the programme that The Better India is supporting, by sponsoring the education of 32 children who will be promoted to Class 9 in April 2020.

5 things that your donation will help facilitate:

  1. Completion of high school education of the students without any financial, psychological, academic or any other challenges -- in a school of their choice.
  2. Building on their strengths and exploring the students’ potential with DSF’s after-school programme
  3. Challenging the rote method of learning and facilitating experiential learning - leading to better academic performance
  4. Holistic development of students including physical and emotional well-being
  5. Setting students up for continued success at universities further on
