All was happy and going well for the expecting mother Debolina, till she was detected with COVID on 12th May. She had completed 7 months of her pregnancy by then and was in midst of her 8th. As her condition deteoriated, she was admitted to EDF hospital on 15th May with extremely high fever and symptoms of severe lung infection.  However as her condition continued to deteoriate, to save both the mother and baby, the doctors decided to perform emergency c section. The baby girl is in intensive care as it is quite a premature delivery. The mother's condition further deteoriated the next day with more than 50% of her lungs malfunctioning. Ultimately her husband Sakya had no option but to opt for ECMO bed support for Debolina in Medica Superspecialty Hospital. This is an artificial way of carrying on vital functions.The ECMO machine is similar to the heart-lung by-pass machine used in open-heart surgery. It pumps and oxygenates a patient's blood outside the body, allowing the heart and lungs to rest. This treatment which now has become the sole and mandatory way of supporting Debolina to continue her fight, is also extremely expensive.  Additionally the baby is also recuperating in intensive care. The estimates of total cost only over the next 2 weeks is upwards of 35 lakhs cumulatively. The family and friends are trying their best to hold fort. However we urgently need to raise more funds to support Debolina.  So it's a humble request to all of you to support this cause of uniting the baby with her mother.
