My brother, 17 years old, has been diagnosed with acute pancreatitis with peri-pancreatic fluid at head mergin, B/L pleural effusion & ascites and has been hospitalized for over a month now.
Severe acute pancreatitis is life threatening and in my brother's case, it's extremely severe. He was initially managed with conservative treatment with iv fluid & high-powered antibiotics which ultimately did not have any positive outcome. Since his condition was deterioting he was shifted to the I.T.U. (Intense Treatment Unit) within 4 days of hospitalization, mainly because of respiratory distess hypertension & trending of saturation fall and is still in the ITU.
As time passed and we were eagerly hoping for even tiny signs of recovery, it was found that other crucial organs like Liver, Lungs, gall bladder also started malfunctioning. He has not eaten from his mouth since then and God knows how many more days to come. Everyday, he is subject to various diagnostic tests and heavy medicines which are extremely expensive. His and his family's sufferings are unmatched, both physically, mentally and emotionally. Also, financial distress has added woes to their suffering. It's been a month now, he is still in the I.T.U. and fighting every second, high doses of antibiotics and great effort of the hospital (Doctors and Nurses Team) has been giving us hope and yes he is recovering slowly. How long more for recovery is still unknown- may be days, months.
He is a fine, young, sensitive boy who even at this vulnerable situation, gently and obliviously tells his mother, to not worry and that he will be completely fine very soon.
For the complete recovery of my brother, we need funds so that he can be cured smoothly, as medical bills, procedure bills, ITU bills are very expensive.
The treatment for this disease is a long procedure where the recovery rate is very slow. According to the doctors, he hasn't recovered as such as of now even though there are some signs of recovery. But also, these signs are not very frequent and rather seen rarely. Hence, the expenses/cost of this treatment has no upper limit and has already reached sky high.
