At Welfare for Animals in Goa, WAG, we rescue hundreds of cows every year. Its heartbreaking work, in particular when we rescue an old female Cow, such as Radha who has suffered a great deal of hardship & abuse.

Many have lost their babies, and are severely malnourished due to years of a bad diet, which includes plastic. In these hot summer months, they require lots of clean drinking water, but instead are forced to drink from contaminated puddles. We rescue them from various cruel scenarios, such as road accidents, ax & acid attacks, Foot & Mouth Disease & many more.

However, the good news, is that once they arrive at WAG, for the first time, they experience love & good food. They also adopt our orphan rescues, this is a joy to watch, as they can experience motherhood for the first time. Here are the stories of a few of our rescues that now have a safe & healthy life with us.

Twiggy, was found collapsed on a beach, which was surrounded by steep cliffs. We think she had climbed down for some scraps of food, and then did not have the strength to climb up. Team WAG rushed to her rescue. Twiggy was starving & dehydrated. However, with good food & love, she has made a good recovery. She now spends her days happily at our shelter, knowing that she will no longer have to search through the garbage for scraps.

Laxmi was rescued by teamWAG, 2 years ago, as she was found on the streets, with a huge wound on her hoof, oozing with blood & maggots. She had been hit by a speeding truck, & dragged for several yards. She was also malnourished, and pregnant. Laxmi had a still born calf , and was devastated. However, 2 years later, she has given birth to a healthy boy calf we call Ayaan. Laxmi is now very happy at our Shelter, and enjoys socializing with the other mums & calfves.

We now have 50 such Cows and would love your help, to help us give them the dignified life they deserve. If in Goa, please do visit our Sanctuary, and meet Radha, and her friends.
