Before we tell you about ourselves, we'd like you to imagine what you think it is like living as a community dog or cat - entirely dependent on humans for your food, shelter, and medical care. Dogs and cats on the street often face brutality from humans, come under cars, develop maggot wounds, cancers and other debilitating conditions. Additionally, parvovirus and distemper viruses are endemic in our country, which means entire litters are often wiped out due to these viruses in a heartbreakingly painful manner.
What do we do? We are trying our hardest to end this cycle of suffering by providing medical care, holding large scale vaccination (both rabies and DHPPiL) drives and most importantly, conducting spay and neuter. Since 2017, we have sterilised over 25,000 dogs and 500 cats, provided SOS medical care, surgeries and on-site treatments to thousands of animals and provided hundreds of community caregivers with vaccinations for their community puppies and dogs. We also have a neonatal care program for orphaned baby animals, and we train new caregivers on how to appropriately care for the most vulnerable of the felines and canines.
We are not funded by any government body and pay our vets and partners for all services provided to us - surgeries, medication, vaccines, in-clinic boarding, foster supplies and diagnostics. Every month, our bills go into lakhs and as much as we try to pay from our pockets, it gets extremely limiting and impossible to do without your help.
Here’s a break up of the costs (per animal) of some of our initiatives:
1. Dog spay/neuter: 1000-1500 INR ($16) (depending on the operating hospital and location)
2. Cat spay/neuter: 4000 INR ($45)
3. Dog meal: 500 INR per dog per month ($6)
4. Puppy deworming: 60 INR ($1)
5. Puppy vaccination: 250 INR per DHPPiL shot ($3)
6. Neonatal care inventory supplies, foster supplies, treatment costs all vary case to case.
7. TNR supplies - cat traps, carabiners, blankets, etc.
