The 2nd wave of COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc in India’s healthcare infrastructure. With an already very low bed count averaged at 1 bed per 1000 people across the country and cases in hundreds of thousands every day, millions are struggling to find hospital beds.
We aim to reduce the burden of India’s health systems by providing access to oxygen to patients and saving their lives, while also saving hospital beds. It is advised that patients with moderate symptoms (oxygen concentration between 90-94%) can use oxygen concentrators at homes, following physician’s advice, rather than the cylinders kept for patients admitted in hospitals for more critical symptoms.
Oxygen concentrators in the market cost anywhere between INR 70,000 to 1,00,000 per piece. With the open source resources, complemented by 3D printing, we can cut down the price of manufacturing the devices at scale to approximately INR 50,000. We aim to start with a couple working prototypes and then scale up to 50 devices manufactured in a short span of 1 week and distribute them along with the complementary goods (ventilator splitters and PPE Kits) to the rural hospitals and public health centers which are facing a more severe shortage of resources.
Join us in assembling DIY Oxygen Concentrators to help COVID-19 patients with mild symptoms. You can get to work with us in various disciplines ranging from software, fluid mechanics, and 3D printing to marketing and campaigns. You will also get to know how DIY Oxikit is made to pump out high purity oxygen for medical purposes.
