    This fundraiser will benefit

communities facing hunger due to lockdown

    from Gurugram

Millions of daily wage workers have lost their livelihoods due to the lockdown. The lack of a steady income leads to an inability to put food on the table everyday. These people have been dependent on cooked meals from the government, but both the quality and quantity have been lacking. Even more recently, the influx of food has stopped completely.

DistriFood is a social initiative that aims to identify the locations and demands of such communities of such people through volunteer based data collection drives and surveys. We hope to ensure the provision of food to such communities through meaningful partnerships with NGOs that have similar objectives. This fundraiser aims to raise funds to sponsor 10 families for a period of two months through weekly provisions of ration kits. These ration kits contain sufficient quantities of 5 kg wheat/rice, oil, sugar, pulse. The cost of feeding and sustaining a whole family of 5 for a week is only 500 rupees.

In addition to the unavailability of ration, a survey conducted for 50+ people in the community of Patel Nagar, Gurugram, we also identified that there are people who are not able to avail the benefits of government schemes linked to ration cards. Most either did not have one or were not able to connect to the right suppliers. With the recent announcement by Prime Minister, it enables us to create those linkages so that the needy can avail consistent benefits of government sponsored schemes. DistriFood aims to distribute awareness pamphlets sensitizing the people about all the available schemes, how to apply for them and even help them in doing so. We also plan to personally oversee the ration card application process for the aforementioned 10 families.
