Chittaranjan Toto Memorial Education CentreChittaranjan Toto Memorial Education Centre was established in the year 2014 to cater the problem of lack of proper education center in Totopara and a place to teach the dying Toto language and culture. Till then the school has constantly served the children of the village from all communities and with formal education have also tried to impart important life skills. Not just being an education center, the place has also become a center point for change and new ideas
with the immensely dedicated team who are constantly exploring new ideas to bring benefit to their community. With the strength of almost 90 students this is the only school in the world which teaches Toto language right from the elementary level.
Location
Totopara is a remote village situated in the northern edges of Jaldhapara Wildlife Sanctuary at Indo- Bhutan Border of West Bengal. The place is known for being the only home of the Toto tribe, which is one of the most endangered tribes of India with only about 1700 living Totos. Owing to its extreme remote location and lack of proper education services the place still has an alarmingly low literacy rate.
Problem/ Why you are doing this
- The school is facing an immediate lack of space and classrooms with increasing students.
- The school currently holds its classes for all standards in one single hall with much difficulty
- Currently the school has only classes till 4th standard and wants to extend it to 5th standard which will make it a holistic primary education centre.
How the funds will help
- The funds raised will help to build one extra room which will be used for standard 4th and 5th.
- The funds will help to extend the existing structure to have more space for the school office.
- Build partitions in the existing hall to help conduct simultaneous classes with more ease
