Devender Premlal Prem Yatra Chapter 2: Himachal Pradesh | Starting from 15th May, 2026
A Traveling Musical Movement by Devender Premlal
Prem Yatra is a traveling music initiative dedicated to bringing people together across divides through song, dance, storytelling, and shared joy. It is a humble yet heartfelt attempt to build a countrywide musical movement that begins not in grand concert halls or metropolitan spaces, but in the streets, schools, villages, and everyday communities of India.
After receiving immense love and support during our Uttarakhand Chapter, we now begin the next chapter of this journey in Himachal Pradesh. The Uttarakhand chapter (in collaboration with Volunteer Yatra) became possible because of every person who contributed, hosted us, collaborated with us, shared our work, and became part of the movement along the way. Together, we were able to reach all 13 districts of Uttarakhand, cover more than 2500 kilometers, conduct workshops with over 1500 children, distribute 15 ukuleles, and connect with more than 3400 people through street music and open mic gatherings. The warmth and trust we received reminded us that people are deeply longing for spaces rooted in love, creativity, healing, and togetherness.
We will soon be uploading a documentary from the Uttarakhand Chapter on our YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/@zindagimubarakho).
With the same spirit, the Himachal Chapter of Prem Yatra aims to travel across all 12 districts of Himachal Pradesh, connecting especially with children and young people in rural, semi-urban, and underserved regions. Through music, creativity, and collective participation, we hope to create spaces of belonging, expression, healing, and freedom.
Our Vision & Purpose
In many homes across India, music education remains a distant dream. Instruments are expensive, opportunities are limited, and creative expression is often treated as a privilege. Yet talent exists everywhere.
We are on a mission to travel across India, teaching music to children from underserved communities, children who may never have held an instrument or been encouraged to explore their creativity.
In every district we visit, we will:
Why Music?
Music heals, connects, empowers, and creates community. Whether sung around a fire, played in a schoolyard, or shared in the middle of a village street, music reminds us that we are not alone.
Through this journey, we also hope to revive and celebrate local folk traditions by connecting them with contemporary musical forms in ways that children and communities can relate to and take pride in.
This Summer: Prem Yatra Himachal Pradesh Chapter
A two-month grassroots musical yatra across Himachal Pradesh.
Beginning from May 15, with ukuleles, stories, songs, and open hearts, the journey will travel district by district carrying music and conversations into schools, streets, villages, and community spaces.
Through performances, workshops, and collaborations, the yatra hopes to foster creativity, connection, and collective healing.
During the Yatra, We Will Conduct:
Free India Movement: A participatory public movement inviting people to dance freely in their own streets and communities, without judgment or barriers. We hope to reimagine public spaces as safe spaces for people of all ages, genders, castes, and classes.
Bol De: Open mics under open skies and community venues where local people can sing, speak, perform, and share their truths through stories, poetry, and music.
Bada Maza Aayega: A one-day interactive workshop in one school and one NGO in every district focused on:
Roots and Wings: An effort to connect local Himachali folk traditions with world music while learning from the lived experiences, stories, and cultural wisdom of local communities.
Proposed Route
The yatra will begin in Kangra district, focusing initially on awareness-building and fundraising through community events and performances.
Phase 1
15 May - 27 May | Kangra, Chamba, Una and Hamirpur District
1 June – 20 June | Kullu, Mandi, Bilaspur and Lahaul Spiti District
July and August will be used for planning, fundraising, documentation, and preparing for the next leg of the journey.
Phase 3
1 September - 20 September (tentative) | Kinnaur, Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur districts
Completion of the remaining districts across Himachal Pradesh.
Each district stop will last approximately 4 to 5 days, allowing meaningful time for connection, creativity, and community engagement.
Who Are We?
Prem Yatra is an initiative of Zindagi Mubarak, a collective of indie artists, musicians, and changemakers led by Dev, a former corporate professional turned traveler and independent artist.
Coming from a lower middle-class background, Dev witnessed firsthand how access to opportunity, creativity, and basic resources often remains unequal in India. Although he had the opportunity to pursue a conventional corporate life, he chose instead to dedicate himself to building spaces rooted in love, connection, and collective care.
This vision gave birth to Ishqestan (Prem Pradesh), meaning “Land of Love” or what the team lovingly calls the “United States of Love.” Supported through self-funding, community solidarity, and compassionate hosts, Dev traveled across 26 countries carrying music and stories centered on love, justice, and human connection.
Returning to India, he felt the need to begin this movement at home, in a society deeply divided across religion, caste, class, gender, and age. Together with fellow artists and collaborators, Zindagi Mubarak emerged as a platform creating music and community spaces that celebrate life while speaking about dignity, freedom, bodily autonomy, social justice, and collective healing.
