Vision:
Empowering Children Through Art: Cultivating Resilience, Creativity, and Social Change

About Bheemashaale:
Hosabale is a tiny village of approximately 1000 residents in Soraba taluk in Shivamogga district. Like most villages in Karnataka, access to extracurricular activities, art education and  digital literacy is next to non-existent for around 200 children from our local communities. Naveen Tejaswi is one of the first-generation students from Hosabale. He is a writer and filmmaker who won the Toto Award 2024 for Creative Writing in Kannada. In his acceptance speech, Naveen said he would use the award money to start an art center in his village for the children of Hosabale. Within two months, Bheema Shaale was up and running. In the months of April and May, Bheema Shaale conducted three workshops, engaging 60 students for 30 days and 100 hours, covering four art forms: tamate, films, origami, and kirigami. Additionally, spoken English classes were conducted for 20 days. To make Bheema Shaale sustainable for the long term, your support is the most important.

Our mission is to create a vibrant and inclusive space where children in Hosabale can explore and express their creativity through various art forms. Rooted in equality, justice, and compassion, we aim to nurture their artistic talents, foster critical thinking, and instill a sense of pride in their cultural heritage. By providing access to high-quality arts workshops, we aspire to empower these young minds, enabling them to become confident, socially aware, and culturally enriched individuals who contribute positively to their communities and society at large. All activities for children at Bheema Shaale are provided free of charge.
Furthermore, we recognize that art is not only a means of self-expression but also a powerful form of resistance. It serves as a tool to challenge societal norms, question and inspire action. Our workshops encourage students to explore issues relevant to their lives and communities through visual arts, filmmaking, music, theater, language and poetry. We encourage them to address social injustices, advocate for change, and amplify the voice of their community.
We firmly believe that when children engage in artistic expression, they are more likely to stay in school. Art provides an alternative path to learning - one that captivates their hearts, ignites curiosity, and fosters resilience. By weaving constitutional values into our artistic endeavors, we not only create skilled artists but also conscientious citizens who actively contribute to dismantling unjust structures.

Through Bheema Shaale, we envision a future where every child, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to flourish as an artist, a critical thinker, and an agent of positive transformation.

Remember, art is not just about aesthetics; it’s a catalyst for change, a beacon of hope, and a form of resistance against injustice.

Goal for 2024-25:
Bheema Pustaka - Children’s Library:
Primary objective of Bheema Pustaka - Children’s Library is to bridge the access gap by providing young learners with unrestricted access to books of all genres suitable for their all around development. The library aims to empower rural youth, foster creativity, and serve as a vibrant community hub through:
  • Art workshops
  • Access to Books and other learning materials
  • Career Counseling
Digital Learning Centre:
  • Inclusive Tech Education: Ensure that all children, regardless of background, have the opportunity to learn and engage with technology, bridging the digital divide.
  • Comprehensive Coding Lessons: Teach coding skills through a structured curriculum that covers fundamental programming languages and problem-solving techniques, preparing children for future technological advancements.
  • STEM Learning: Promote a strong foundation in STEM subjects through interactive and practical learning experiences, fostering curiosity and critical thinking.
  • Access to Leading Digital Art Softwares: Provide students with access to professional digital art software, enabling them to explore and develop their creative talents in digital media.
Workshops:
Throughout this academic year, we’re hosting a series of art workshops led by expert artists. These workshops will:
  • Inspire Creativity: Children will explore diverse art forms - filmmaking, painting, music, theater, poetry, star gazing etc. They’ll learn to express their unique perspectives and stories.
  • Rooted in constitutional Values: Our workshops integrate constitutional principles - equality, justice, and compassion. Art becomes a canvas for social awareness and activism.
  • Keep Children in School: Art engages hearts and minds. By fostering a love for creativity, we ensure that these young learners stay motivated, attend school, and dream big.
