During this current Covid-19 pandemic era, we are all seeing the difficulties of our children to keep up with education. Early learning is the most significant time as it lays the strongest foundations and our children are struggling to cope.
However, this struggle has been a part of the lives of the countless underprivileged children in India even before Covid-19 and the risk of further uncertainty only growing in multiples due to lack of infrastructure, resources, and a lack of priority towards education. Taking their education away takes away their biggest weapon. In view of this, we as an organization need funds to overcome this unwanted situation and educate more underserved children by providing them quality education, good infrastructure, resources, and recruiting and training more teachers.
Asaadharan Foundation has been actively running an evening school in a major slum pocket in Surat for the past 3 years. Presently, we cater to 250 students between 5-17 years of age at the evening school, who we groom and educate in our core subject areas (English, Hindi and Mathematics) along with Science and Art. Students are taught using activity-based and fun learning techniques.We are now focusing on converting our model into a school-structure, that is unique and fast-paced! Our focus is in this intervention because we have all kinds of children in different age-groups coming to us, from dropouts, to children who have never been to school before, to children who attend either government or subsidized private school but require remedial support.
We want to cater to all kinds of children and their needs. Thus, we see fit to provide a strong Early and Primary learning environment as a foundation and building from there.
We are using the NCERT curriculum and Minimum Learning Outcomes to support in condensing the program. We are also focusing on developing an Early Learning Centre for children between ages 3-5 years to provide a conducive learning environment to improve the quality of foundational learning.
Our aim is to begin by supporting students get up to speed in our 3 core subject areas-Language (English & Hindi) and Mathematics at the primary level to build the necessary foundation to learn any other subject and develop core competencies. We are developing a curriculum and pedagogy that allows to bring students up to speed in Standards 1,2 & 3 in just one year along with offering a more holistic development approach towards healthy eating and exercising their creativity using all disposal tools like online lessons, video tutorials and in-class open learning concepts.
