Help a Child with Type 1 Diabetes Stay Alive
➡️ For a child with Type 1 Diabetes, every day is a fight for survival. Insulin is not optional, nor are the glucose strips, syringes and regular tests needed to use it safely. Yet for thousands of families across India, especially in rural communities, the cost of care is simply out of reach.
➡️ The annual cost of essential diabetes care for one child is approximately ₹40,000-₹50,000, covering insulin, syringes and lancets, glucose monitoring strips and recommended laboratory tests. For families already struggling to make ends meet, this often means rationing insulin, skipping doses or reusing supplies.
These impossible choices can lead to devastating complications such as diabetic ketoacidosis, coma and, tragically, death.
Project Surya was founded in 2021 after its founder, Divaa Uthkarsha, witnessed her younger brother Surya’s journey with Type 1 Diabetes and realized that countless children did not have access to the care her own family could provide. Today, through our pillars of Awareness, Advocacy and Funding, we work to ensure that no child’s future is determined by their ability to afford treatment.
In partnership with the Karnataka Institute of Endocrinology and Research (KIER), Samatvam Foundation and Diabetes Fighters Trust, we identify and support underprivileged children across Karnataka and throughout India. With the support of this fundraiser, we also hope to expand our collaborations with the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health and the T1 Foundation of India, enabling us to reach even more children in need.
Your contribution will directly fund insulin, glucose meters, test strips, syringes, pen needles, HbA1c testing and, in the future, continuous glucose monitoring systems that can transform a child’s quality of life. It will also support free health camps, counselling and diabetes education for children and their families.
How Your Donation Helps

➡️ ₹2,000 supports a child’s insulin needs for about one month.
➡️ ₹3,000 covers a month of comprehensive essentials, including insulin, syringes and glucose monitoring supplies.
