Our dear colleague Pradeep Malavalli Lingaraju is going through an unimaginable time. His 7-year-old son, Darsheel P, a cheerful and bright young boy, has been diagnosed with a rare and life-threatening condition called FIRES – Febrile Infection-Related Epilepsy Syndrome.
Just days ago, Darsheel was a healthy, active child. After a mild fever, he suddenly began experiencing severe seizures. Within hours, he was rushed to the PICU, where doctors diagnosed him with FIRES—a rare neurological disorder that causes continuous, treatment-resistant seizures in previously healthy children.
What is FIRES?
FIRES is a devastating and extremely rare condition that typically follows a minor fever or infection. It leads to prolonged seizures that don’t respond to standard treatments. Children with FIRES often require intensive care, specialized medications, and long-term hospitalization. The emotional and financial toll on families is enormous.

The Financial Strain
Darsheel has been in the PICU, intubated and on a ventilator since 17th April 2025, and is expected to remain under intensive care for many more days. The cost of his treatment has already exhausted the company-provided insurance coverage. Doctors estimate an additional ₹70 lakhs (approx.) will be needed for continued hospitalization and advanced care.
