In November 2024, we received a devastating news that shattered our worlds. Our son, Angad, was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a rare and devastating genetic disorder that gradually weakens muscles and steals away a child's ability to move, breathe, and ultimately live.
Every parent dream of seeing their child take their first steps, say their first words, and grow into their potential. But for Angad, this dream is overshadowed by the cruel grip of DMD. While most children of his age are exploring the world with boundless energy, Angad's future is a race against time, as every passing day, DMD is tearing him apart.
A Question No Parent Should Face
The hardest moment came 2 weeks after diagnosis when Angad was anxious about the frequent doctor visits and physiotherapist meets, he asked in sign language (toddler’s language) as "Why am not able to stand and walk Mumma, why do I fall so much, Mumma? Other kids are playing, why am not able to go with them!?”
It would be the toughest thing for us to break this News to Angad once he starts understanding, about his disease & life left.
