What Government of India is doing?
GOI announced a relief package of Rs. 2000, free LPG, 5kg rice and pulses to the poor and vulnerable populations along with protective equipment to the frontline workers.Tamil Nadu announced 3280 crore relief packages to provide Rs. 1000, 15kg of rice, 1kg of dal, 1kg of oil to the poor and vulnerable populations.
Why do we need to chip in?
Despite the announcements of relief by both the center and state, because of this lockdown, we still find at least 30% of families left stranded due to either poor implementation or lack of manpower to identify the needy and resolve. That’s when our team decided to chip in to help the stranded daily wagers and blind/physically challenged families by joining hands with Chennai Corporation. We mainly provide food provisions/groceries to the families identified by our volunteer force and to the ones identified by the Chennai Corporation.
Families data passed by Chennai Corp to help. Are we doing in isolation?
Yes. We follow an approach by which our volunteer force operates from home and will step up out in the field only for the collection and distribution of food provision to the identified families with protective kits such as masks, gloves, and sanitizers. Our priority is both helping the needy and prevention of corona.
How do we know what our money is being spent on?
Milaap pays every single paisa donated to the respective vendors directly for the food provisions/groceries that we but via cash transfer and bills/invoices for the same would be provided for the same!
Apart from that, we have created a google sheet where all donors would able to see our work updates including the amount of money spent on each family. The sheet includes Vendor Volunteer Mapping and Identified daily wagers/blind/physically challenged families database with contact details to whom we render the provisions/groceries.
