It was on the third of November 2018 that we were taken to Karunashraya by our school as a project of the Rotary Club of Bangalore. The instant we saw the miserable state of the cancer patients, something prodigious stirred inside us. The bleak reality was that the patients were under an awful amount of suffering, that they had so little to look forward to in life and all they wished for was to live another day. There is a greater need for care and hope when there’s no expectation for cure. This hard truth is what inspired us to do something about this scenario, and change this positively.
Karunashraya is a palliative health care centre which aims at helping end stage cancer patients live their last days painlessly, in dignity, and in peace. Started by Kishore Rao in 1994, karunashraya has welcomed about 24,000 patients and their families on its premises over the course of 26 years. It has been built solely through donations, and continues to fund all its activities through charity. Patients of all genders, income groups, religions and castes are welcome, without any discrimination. Karunashraya currently has 75 beds with one paediatric ward.
  We’ve always wanted to do something for Karunashraya and during this lockdown, we were given the opportunity to start a fundraiser and raise money to help Karunashraya in continuing this noble task. Us three friends have started this fundraiser for the dual purpose of spreading awareness about the need of palliative care and for raising funds to help these people.  By donating, you are not only helping them in their fight against this terrible disease but are also giving them hope and making them believe that their life was worthwhile. Any help or donation, no matter how small, will be deeply appreciated and is much needed.
