Given the rapid spread of infection and patients not getting access to basic healthcare services, we are focussing at mobilising resources, medical equipment, oxygen concentrators, ventilators etc. to increase the capacity utilisation of government hospitals.We are setting up affordable, scalable, plug and play ‘Box Hospitals’ in different districts of Bihar, which would be like Covid recovery centres (Triage system). These centres would be equipped with a cost-effective alternative such as laminated corrugated cardboard beds, medicine boxes and separators, designed and manufactured by a team of experts at Anant National University. These beds are sturdy, waterproof, quick to develop and can be disinfected. The cardboard separators allow patients isolation and dignity in large halls. We have also partnered with various agencies to procure oxygen concentrators, oximeters, ventilators to make the treatment available in rural parts of Bihar.
We are looking to set up Box Hospitals of 50-bed facilities (COVID Recovery Centre for mild and moderate cases) in different districts of Bihar. The centre would be equipped with corrugated cardboard beds, medicine boxes, oxygen concentrators and separators. We will help the existing government hospital by increasing the capacity utilisation by providing beds, IV Stands, separators, medicine boxes and oxygen concentrators. The existing hospitals can run and manage the box hospital facility, and this would enable them to provide medical treatment to more patients and segregate mild and moderate cases.
The Covid-19 Pandemic response from ‘i-Bihar’, is for all like-minded people willing to come together to fight the gloom and doom scenario and work towards lifting the public spirit in Bihar. This is one such mission that invites and brings together some of the like-minded individuals, capable and credible organisations to contribute in the fight against COVID-19 for Bihar and for the nation.
Since May 2020, our coalition of partners led by Sustain Labs have made 13 COVID care centres and hospitals across 5 states in India.

What are the costs for setting up the box hospital?
The typical box hospital setup consists of Probox Beds, Probox side tables, Probox separators, Bed mattresses, Pillow, Oximeters, IV Stands and Oxygen concentrators. The approx cost of setting up a single Box Hospital with 50-bed capacity is around INR 6,71,669 (including the transportation cost). The rates of procurement are basis bulk orders placed with our suppliers. However, we intend to deploy Box Hospital solution in at least 10 districts of Bihar but we are starting with 3 centres initially.
How will this Box Hospital operate?
The box hospital setup will be placed at existing hospitals and vacant buildings. The facility would be run and managed by the nursing staff and doctors of existing hospitals. In addition to that, we would also integrate the online OPD program with each box hospital, where external doctors can oversee and provide advice (COVID Protocol) through medical consultations. This would also build the capacity of on ground nursing staff and doctors.
All Donations to Samudaay are 50% Tax Exempt under section 80G of IT Act, 1961.
