Help Kavach with sanitation and COVID-19 Relief

Tax benefits
A fledgling project by the Nurturing Minds Charitable Trust, KAVACH aims to educate and provide the necessary utilities to protect the girl child from sexual diseases, reproductive diseases, assaults, disorientation and ignorance.

During this coronavirus pandemic, we have been requested by the BM C Office to provide emergency supplies for women and children affected by this disease. Under the circumstances, the teachers of our Balwadis, whose pay scale is very low, are in dire straits. KAVACH has been requested to provide grocery and cooking material.

Moreover, Mumbai is starting Isolation/Quarantine centers in the Municipal schools. KAVACH has been requested to provide 50,000 sanitary napkins for the women quarantined/isolated in these centers and also 5000 face masks and sufficient number of bottles of sanitizers.

Till date KAVACH has supplied more than 235 families near Sassoon Dock with essentials such as food, toiletries, and sanitization supplies. We have provided 10,000 sanitary napkins to the women in the K-ward. We supplied rations to taxi drivers, daily wagers, and other folks in our network that need our help.

We need your donation to help meet these URGENT needs for Mumbai's vulnerable populations. Your donation will go towards purchasing these supplies and ensuring they reach to those individuals that need it most.

**We request you not to mark yourself as anonymous so we can send you the tax exemption certificate for your donation.**

We are using our established logistics networks to get essential supplies to those that need it most in the middle of the lockdown, where even moving from one part of Mumbai to the other is difficult. We are helping with hygiene products for women and girls, who can be overlooked even during this time of crisis. Please help us raise funds to meet these necessary needs. We need extra help in this coronavirus disease pandemic.

Even if every person gives a small amount we can make a huge difference. Please donate generously. Details and documents below.

Dear Supporters,

We highly appreciate your quick and timely response to the felt need of relief in work for Covid 19 in slums of Mumbai.
With your invaluable support in the months of April and May, 2020, we reached out to over 500 families i.e. over 2500 people in the slums and other communities where we identified the daily wagers/construction workers, etc. We also reached out to the people working in burial sites and cemeteries who had not lost their jobs, but were facing stigma due to their profession. We reached out the out of work taxi drivers and supported their families with dry ration. In North Mumbai we reached to an entire community (a tribe originally from Gujarat) mainly employed as domestic helps who were not paid as they could not report to work. We also ensured that all these families received Wheat, Rice, Sugar, Oil, Sanitary pads, Sanitizers, Tea powder and spices. Identification of the needy families was done by our local volunteers. Local volunteers also supported the distribution process. We ensured social distancing and also spread awareness about washing of hands, wearing masks and strictly following the lock down regulations to support the Government to fight COVID-19. A large segment of the unorganized sector i.e., the daily wage workers, the construction workers and many such others do not have the necessary resources to survive. They rely on their daily wages to put food on the table.
Along with the dry ration, we have also distributed the following:
  • Over 20000 packets of sanitary pads in the MCGM “K” Ward, MCGM hospitals and other slums
  • 300 bottles of sanitizers in the public toilets at the slums of Colaba, Andheri and Kandivali
  • 200 bottles of sanitizers to the police on duty at various locations of Mumbai
  • 3000 masks to the staff of the Education Department (MCGM) and a MCGM run hospital
  • 500 Adult Diapers in MCGM run Hospitals
  • 2000 Adult Diapers at a Government recognized Covid-19 Center

Dear Supporters,

We identified the problem of the sanitary napkin crisis at the beginning of the lockdown and to date have distributed more than 10,000 packets and continue distribution drive in the slums.

We at Kavach have also helped taxi drivers ... the Kaali peeli walas, They are an essential part of Mumbai culture, but now, there are many that are out of work. We as "Kavach Protectors" decided to support him and a few of his fellowmen (Taxiwala's) with grocery for a month, hoping that they would be back on the roads soon.

In our work, we came across a community in North Mumbai where there are 125 families originally from a tribe in Gujarat. These people come to Mumbai to find work. Most men in this community are either daily wagers or are unemployed. The women run their homes financially and emotionally. We at Kavach have provided these families with rations lasting them one month.

Please donate so we can help more families, taxi drivers, and women that need our help.
