Cyclone Amphan, the most powerful cyclone to ever hit the Bay of Bengal, struck East India and Bangladesh on May 20, 2020. In the course of a day, the capital city of West Bengal and its neighboring villages have been destroyed, with the homes of the most vulnerable people particularly affected. Bawali, a small village outside of Kolkata, is in ruins. Power lines have collapsed, structures brought to their knees, trees uprooted. The impact of the cyclone, along with the rippling effects of COVID-19, is making lives more difficult than ever for Bawali’s people.
