Who am I?
My name is Basithali, I completed my graduation (B-Tech in Civil Engineering) from the university of Calicut on 2017. After that I worked as a lecturer for a period of 4 years at Malabar Polytechnic College Kotakkal, Malappuram. During my B-Tech program I had inspired by the concept of sustainable building technology, so that I decided to study on the topic “Effect of lime and GGBS in compressed stabilized earth block embodied with waste plastic fibers” as my B-Tech project. The process again raised my curiosity in the field, I continuously try to understand more about the importance of natural building technology by travelling, attending various workshops and training programs conducted by Auroville, Thannal, Gramavidhya, and Co-Earth. From the experience and exposure that I gained from the past 6 years, I realized that as a civil engineer I can contribute more in the area. And I decided to continue my studies by joining at TKM College of Engineering for post-graduation program (M-Tech in Structural engineering and Construction management) on November 2021.
As a part of the program I'm going to study about lime and pozzolana as a natural building material and to publish a journal paper on the same under the guidance of Dr. Sajeeb R as academic guide and Ar.Biju Bhaskar as natural building guide who is experienced Architect in natural building technology.
The study aims to produce scientific and credible information on using lime and pozzolana as a building material, which helps the people who are practicing and studying about natural building technology.

Scope of the study.
Sustainable development is the need of the hour. With the climate crisis, there is a current movement towards sustainability as a more appealing priority for businesses, as people begin to live more sustainable lives. It is likely that, in the future, positive impact on climate over the whole value chain, improved impact on the environment, people, and atmosphere, and productive input on society. The ability to bring alternative building materials to the construction industry through alternative building techniques as partial and complete replacement could lead to sustainable practices, waste reduction and cost saving.
So sustainable construction is developing as a solution for the problem discussed and hence it is importance is raising. And popularization of sustainable practice require support from research community.

What is my research about?
“Effect of pozzolanas in Lime-Crete with natural admixtures at different curing periods”
Abstract: Concrete is a major worldwide building material, in which Portland cement is the usual binder. The high energy required as well as the CO2 emissions associated with the production of cement are considered to be serious environmental issues. The present project focuses on development of concrete, with Lime binder (Lime-Crete). Mineral admixtures (pozzolanic materials) such as Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag, Rice Husk Ash and Surki are used along with organic admixtures such as Kadukkai and Jaggery. Brick bats are used as coarse aggregate and M-sand is used as fine aggregate.
In the preliminary study, compositions with different percentages of pozzolanic materials are used with lime along with natural admixtures. The different compositions of pozzolanic materials considered are 0%, 15%, 30% and 45% by volume of lime. All possible combinations of the three pozzolanic materials are considered, which amounts to 64 combinations. Specimens are to be tested for mechanical strength using destructive and non-destructive testing at various ages (28, 56, 90 and 120 days)and a pozzolanic index needs to be determined. In order to evaluate the influence of the -pozzolanic material on various properties of the mix. The combination of the pozzolanic materials, which gives the most desirable properties, needs to be identified.

Why am I asking you for support?
I am here to raise funds for doing my project on the topic "Effect of pozzolanas in lime Crete with natural admixtures at different curing periods”. To complete this sustainable related study, we have to cast around 2000 lime Crete specimens (8 cubic meters), which cost about INR 96700/-
