Detailed Background

Balbahadur Bist was employed as a security guard in Sus Pune with a residential building named Sai Kurpa society (Sutarwadi, Pune 411021). He started showing symptoms of covid-19 around the 20th of April 2021. He had taken his vaccine shot on the 18th of April 2021.
His condition required monitoring after a few days and from the 25th of April to 1st of May he was being taken care of at Sainath Clinic in Sus Village. On the 1st of May the family was advised that he will have to be moved to a proper hospital for round the clock monitoring and support. With covid-19 cases at their peak in Pune at that time and availability of beds running short in government hospitals, the family had no option but to get him treated in private hospitals. He was admitted to Silver Birch Care Center, Dhayari, Pune. On the 5th of May 2021, the family was advised that he needed to be moved into a bigger hospital with better facilities to handle the patient. He was then moved to Symbiosis University Hospital and Research Center (SUHRC) on the 5th of May 2021.
The CT Brain and CT PNS and HPE reports at SUHRC showed on the onset of Mucormycosis (Black Fungus). He required a surgical intervention by an ENT surgeon. Since SUHRC did not have the expertise to handle this the family was asked to move to a hospital with the required infrastructure. Then began a dire search for a hospital bed, and finally on the night of 12th of May, he was admitted at Sassoon Hospital in Pune.
Sadly, Balbahadur Bist was unable to recover from the various complications caused due to covid-19 infection and he passed away on the 14th of May 2021.
The family that had left no stone unturned for his treatment were left heartbroken and shattered. Balbahadur Bist was just 46 years old. He leaves behind his wife Raju Debi and a son Parbin and two brothers Lok Bahadur and Bam Bahadur.
While Balbahadur was unwell, and his son Parbin too caught the covid-19 infection most likely from his father. And his lung infection became severe, and he too needed hospitalization. Parbin was admitted in SUHRC from the 3rd of May to the 14th of May 2021. He was discharged on the 14th of May 2021 same day his father succumbed to covid-19.
The family from the 20th of April 2021 to 14th of May 2021 has run up medical bills worth 5 lakhs. They have had to take borrow money to pay off the bills and are currently in a debt of Rs 4.5 lakhs.
The family comes from modest background. Balbahadur’s wife used to work as a domestic help but has lost her livelihood due to covid lockdowns and restrictions. His son Parbin was employed as a cook in a small hotel in Sus, Pune. And he too has faced a loss of his livelihood and income since last year and has managed to work only intermittently when the government regulations allowed it. At present he too is not earning anything. The family does not have any health or life insurance.
His brother Lok Bahadur works as a security guard in Pune. And his brother Bam Bahadur works as a driving school instructor in Pune, but he too is facing a loss of income as the driving schools have remained closed for better part of the year since March 2020.
The family is staring into a debt-ridden future at present and has exhausted all their savings. This campaign is to help them come out of this debt due to the medical expenses of Balbahadur Bist and Parbin Bist.
