Majal is a collective formed by youth belonging to the Pardhi community. Pardhis are one of the many Nomadic and Denotified Tribes (NT-DNTs) of India. Even though there are many DNT communities all over India, all that most people think of when it comes to us is 'criminals'. Our communities were branded as criminals by birth in the colonial era Criminal Tribes Act in 1871 and even after being denotified in 1952, the stigma of routine police atrocities, false rumours of crimes, lack of access to education and employment, everyday humiliation and constant violation of our basic rights by those in power, continues till date.
Since the nation-wide lockdown was announced last year in March our lives have been in constant upheaval, the crisis of not having any resources while the rest of the country was told to stay at home, the constant exploitation at the hands of social, political and administrative structures of power, the violence doled out to us on the roads by the police, and our lack of official documents, phones and media to reach schemes and services, have resulted in many members of our community losing their lives because of having insufficient food, lost livelihoods, and having no access to health services.
We, the youth of the community, are therefore trying to crowdfund so that we can help the people of our communities, members of Nomadic and Denotified Tribes in Bhopal (MP) and neighboring districts. They are often sidelined by the mainstream media and political leaders. Our hope is to reach roughly 900 families spread across different districts of Madhya Pradesh with your help. They belong to Kanjar, Sapera, Dafale, Banchhda, Bedia, Banjara, Pardhi, Agariya, Kalbelia, Pardhi and other NT-DNT communities.
मजल पारधी युवाओं का एक समूह है और हम विमुक्त और घुमक्कड़ जनजातियों की पहचान और जागरूकता से जुड़े मुद्दों के लिए काम करते हैं।
हालाँकि भारत में घुमन्तु और विमुक्त जनजातियों की संख्या बहुत है, ज़्यादातर लोग हमारे समुदाय के लोगों को चोर या अपराधी की नज़र से देखते हैं। 1952 में रद्द किए जाने के बावजूद 1871 का उपनिवेशकालीन 'आपराधिक जनजाति कानून' के तहत अभी भी हमारे समुदायों को कलंकित करने के लिए पुलिस द्वारा हमें ‘हैबिचुअल ऑफेंडर’ (आदतन अपराधी) के तौर पर नामित कर दिया जाता है। पुलिसिया बर्बरता की हर दिन की असलियत, चोरी के इलज़ाम, उच्च शिक्षा और रोज़गार के मौकों तक हमारी न के बराबर पहुँच, और हर दिन ही सत्ताधारियों के हाथ अत्याचार, ये हमारा आज तक का जीवन है।
जबसे मार्च 2020 में लॉक डाउन की घोषणा हुई, हमारे समुदाय के लोगों के लिए हर दिन लगातार एक संघर्ष रहा है। जब बाकी देश को घर पर रहने को कहा, हमारे पास खाने और घर चलाने के साधन नहीं थे, सड़क पर पुलिस अंधाधुन रोकथाम, मार-पिटाई और जेल में डाल रही थी, कई जगहों पर फ़ोन और दस्तावेज़ न होने की वजह से भी हम गिनी चुनी सरकारी राशन स्कीम या स्वस्थ्य उपचार का लाभ नहीं ले पाए। सामाजिक, राजनैतिक, और प्रशासनिक सत्ता के समीकरणों में हम वंचित ही रहे और इस कारण हमारे कई सदस्यों की जान भी गयी।
हम, पारधी समुदाय के युवा, इसलिए फंड्स इक्कठा कर रहे हैं जिससे हम अपने जैसे घुमन्तु और विमुक्त जान जातियों की मदद कर पाएँ जिनको मुख्यधारा मीडिया और राजनेता भूल गए हैं। यह फंड्स भोपाल जिला और मध्य प्रदेश के अन्य ज़िलों में रहने वाले तकरीबन 900 पारधी, कंजर, नट, अगरिया, डफाले, सपेरा, बांछड़ा, बेड़िया, कालबेलिया और अन्य समुदायों के परिवारों तक राशन और कोविड की प्राथमिक दवाइयों को पहुंचाने में मदद करेंगे।
